@reck: your palace gives production bonus iirc. Monument is 25 hammers so you probably have a couple hammers being worked plus your palace. The other city is likely just sitting on a grassland herping the derp

Plus you can learn the equations. I think it's 2 food for grassland, a food and a hammer for plains. Hills add a hammer but take a food. Rivers add a gold. Forests add a hammer. Jungles remove all hammers but add a food or something. Water tiles all make a food.
Then all the resources count in their bonuses. Again, this is just memory. I could be wrong

Um. It feels like neither, honestly. It's less focused on military, at least with this run. Everything is a bit slower but way more open ended. Also there's, like, no real path

Play on a higher difficulty?
I won relatively easily on normal as the Slavic federation. Beelined a transcendent victory as quickly as I could thanks to the ungodly a mouth of xeno mass in my area. Finished around turn 331

Well I mean it's less strategic than civ v, but that's kinda always bound to be the case since five bad two expansion packs and a bunch of dlc to improve and expand. Like, as a self contained game it's pretty good.
The only real things that I would like at present are more aggressive AI and aliens that react to you more. I've been clearing out swaths of colonies and all the aliens are still super chill
Oh and I think the sonic fence is a really silly building and I'm not 100% sure why it is one
