The frantically-building-your-ship part is obviously fun, but the real fun comes in watching other people (like Pie) lose half of their fucking ship to one meteor strike because they decided to make a loop.
It's seriously fun and really interactive. No downtime, ever.
Galaxy Trucker is great, and it's quite newbie friendly too.

My lady and I went halves and bought Arkham Horror today (£49.99!)
After spending half an hour setting up the game, and following the instructions, we ended up stopping and watching someone on youtube set up the game - I have no idea whether we were doing something specifically wrong or I was just being a thicko.
Anyway, long story short our Terror Level raised to the maximum, the monster bowl ran out, the boss devoured me and my gf's character couldn't actually roll to attack because her bonuses were too low.
It was a fun, if infuriating game though. Hopefully we will play again tomorrow/later and have more success. She also has the Discworld Ankh-Morpork game, which is a lot of fun.
Contemplating finding some other games to purchase, preferably two players (because she's just moved and has yet to find others to game with), preferably longish games. I do enjoy Ascension, so might see if I can find a copy of that somewhere, but does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, I've recently played "Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards". This one is an almost completely random quick card game, but it is really fun if the group get into its dressing.
Galaxy Trucker is ridiculously fun. It's a nice different pace to games like Ascension/Munchkin/Ankh Morpork.

Going to my lady's tomorrow, and she's got Gloom and Ticket To Ride newly bought so I will be playing them tomorrow. Really looking forward to trying Gloom, it looks like a lot of fun, and the see-through cards look really sexy.

I just bought Thunderstone Advance: Towers of Ruin. Game here
It's a deckbuilding game, and it's a lot of fun. The lady in the game shop recommended it, so I decided to take a punt. It really is a lot of fun. You can also play it solo player, I've tried it duo atm, but when CDB comes on Tuesday we'll do it as a three.

7 wonders is brilliant. I really enjoy it. I played it with CDB and others the other day, scoring no points except for Science, and came 2nd by 1 point.
I don't recommend doing only Science though, because once everyone else realises you're doing Science, they'll fuck you up.

If you fancy it, there's a good instructional video here on how to play on Vassal (note: not how to play the game, just how to work it on the engine) and then we can fire up Skype for voice chat during it.
Supposedly you need a physical copy of the game and any expansions you're using to play on Vassal but the method it claims enforces this rule (text blanked out on Loyalty cards) doesn't seem to apply on the latest version so that may not be the case. Hopefully it's possible to play without, in that case, but maybe someone knows another problem that might come from doing that.
Don't mind any level of experience and happy to teach if necessary though I'm keen to use some expansions (namely Pegasus and the shiny Daybreak box that should be making its way to me later this week).

Girlfriend bought Dead of Winter on pre order ages ago.
It arrived whilst she was in hospital.
We finally got to play it (in a fashion) today. It's pretty damn fun. We only played 2 player, so it was co-op, and I was helping because I had to read all of the small text on the cards for her, but in general it was a lot of fun. Plus, zombies!
If we were to play with more, we'd have to go up to 4 - there's no way she could currently play by herself when the traitor mechanic exists, due to text needing reading. It's a lot like BSG, so I'm completely pro playing it.

in theory (visiting lisa this week) means i should be able to play

Highest on my to-do list at the moment, though, is

Come to Oxford over half term, then.
Can I come??? (I really wanna get my hands on it, though for real)
Cosmic is great, the powers are super fun (mostly). We played a game with like 7 or so at The Reckoning and it went by pretty quick, so it varies, but I've played it a few times now and only had a bad experience with UN!
edit: I don't think Cosmic would work very well with 3, Chevre. (Never played it with that number...but, it seems like it'd remove a lot of the fun)

Man, loads of people have been recommending that. Definitely one I wouldn't mind trying at least once.
Had a fun 3 player game of Smallworld the other day - I ended up getting so many broken combinations (Commando Ghouls and Seafaring Tritons) so easily roflstomped, but it was a lot of fun.
Had a less fun game of Sentinels - ended up being far too difficult and there was no fun in it at all. Was quite sad about that...
