Ok, I've built a simple Melon Tower by the animal pits. It doesn't give you much yet, but I'm working on it.

It's not the prettiest thing in town, but I don't think it's hideously ugly.

Hunt for the Enderdragon

On Saturday 19th May, we'll be playing Minecraft in a brand new world, aiming to kill the Enderdragon as a team in one evening. As usual, we will be playing on my server, starting at 18:40 British time. The idea is that we'll set up a base near the spawn point, and you'll be allowed to carry on if you die, until we leave to find a stronghold. If you die after that, you're out.

Yeah. But Vechs's multiplayer maps only have three colours of wool to collect. It would be cool to have an arena with every colour of wool in (obviously with a chest of each for each team), and the first team to get it all wins.

Pretty much. At least as I understand it from my (pretty limited, tbh) experience, it's an interface for server mods (plugins), and it doesn't do anything without plugins. It sounds like this server had Essentials before, which is a collection of basic commands to allow greater control over the server.

Chess, that game in the spleef arena completely stops us doing anything else with the place. I wouldn't have minded if it was just a few layers at the bottom, but the dispensers being so high up means we can't build

in there without neutralising the spleef arena.

I believe when we did it last time, we had one death from starvation, one from a zombie, one from cave spider poison, and I think the last one may have been fall damage. With 12 in a smaller arena, we'd have a chance at getting some good PvP action.

Claus, I think the farm that puts the most strain on the server is the blaze farm. The trouble with that is that redstone lamps won't light it up well enough to stop the spawning. I think a lava mechanism could, but lava is really buggy so I don't really want to start sticking it all over my farms...

1) hardly. The lava off to the side kills them pretty efficiently - if the cap is reached, it's far more likely to be because the area isn't lit up properly.

2) Yeah, a 2-wide tunnel might be more efficient, but it doesn't make any difference. Also, you said that you need it because the hole is 2-wide, which doesn't even make sense. Did you look at how I set up the water?

3) Mobs are stupid. Mobs swim in water. Again - did you even look at how I set it up?

I don't think regular mob farms, like Chesskid's will cause much lag. The mobs get killed pretty quickly by a lava blade after they spawn, and the items are collected just as quickly.

The issue is far more likely the spawner farms. I'd suggest in the first instance we put up signs warning players not to AFK for more than, say, 10 minutes before killing the mobs. It means I have to brew about four times as many potions, but I can live with that.

The other issue, that T-Bone mentioned, can be easily fixed by killing the animals down to 3-4 when we're not farming them. I just prefer to leave it with more than that in case they escape somehow.

Yeah, it's also possible that a large number of mob farms could cause lag. Scope has two, Om has one, Chess and Lofu have one, and I think there's a fifth around somewhere. And none of them use a 12-pad tower design.

Anyone interested in another PvP thing tonight? I have two maps ready to go. One is a free-for-all in a pretty nice mountain biome, the other is two identical deserts with a bridge between them, to be played in two teams. Around 6-7 british time (1-2 hourd away) would be good for me.

That's 1:00 or 1:30 am for me, but I should be able to make it. And I'd use a 1000x1000 arena.

BTW, those arenas I made are for short, bloody games. They're slightly less than 200x200. The idea is that there would be no PvP until sunrise on the second day.

We're using a new world and trying to complete the game in one go. I think with a bunch of people it should be doable, since we can have someone setting up a food source the whole time, someone hunting endermen, one or two of us caving, and a bunch working on the nether. Then we can send a couple of people ahead to find the stronghold while we build up a supply of ender eyes, and then all go in for the fight.

I might check the nether before we start with MCEdit just to make sure there's a fortress within a reasonable distance, but other than that it'll be a fresh world.

But speaking of the End is there any chance we could stop resetting it at some point in the future? Enderman xp farms can have about 5 times the yield of blaze farms, but I don't want my work to get wiped out.

You can find strongholds with Eyes of Ender. But there's no reliable way of finding nether fortresses, which you need for Blaze rods.
