Blue is the control colour. The Blue DotP deck is awful, heavily change it and it can work.
You bought innistrad, so you should have a full 4-set of Delver of Secrets. That, 4 Mana Leak, 4 Unsummon, and you already have a heck of a strong start. Include 2-3 Dissipate, a few Think Twice, and then pick your beaters as you choose. If you have the stuff, I'd suggest 4 Invisible Stalker, as many Geist of St Traft as you can find, a set of Spectral Flight, some Silver-Inlaid Daggers, and then get mid-range stuff like Murder of Crows or even Geistcatcher's Rig to help deal with fliers while your hexproof enchanted/equipped guys go to town.-

Panzer, this is the most diverse Standard in years. U/W Delver, W/x Tokens, G/R Wolf Run (and the billion variants of all three), G/x Aggro, Haunted Humans, B/u Zombies, Birthing Pod, RDW, all place at tournaments relatively frequently. There's also a bunch of fringe-viable decks like Heartless (Grixis and U/B), FRites, Tempered Steel, Mono-B Infect, even some G/R Aggro-wolf decks can do really well.
Also, FRites, to me at least, is as one-dimensional as decks go. I know someone who played it for a while, then quit and made a Pod deck instead. He said it was too boring, and too vulnerable to Surgical Extraction to be useful right now.-

Legacy is an Eternal format: cards never rotate out of it, and almost every card is allowed, except for a small-ish banlist. Vintage uses the same sets as Legacy, but the banlist is significantly smaller. Modern is a new format using everything from 8th Edition up (all of the Modern card frames, also has a large-ish banlist), while Extended allows the 4 most recent sets (in this case, Shards of Alara, Zendikar, Scars of Mirrodin, Innistrad).
Legacy and Modern are the two big fish besides Standard. No one plays Extended, and Vintage has a ridiculously high price entry point.-

Don't overcommit to a colour or colours too early, look for a cohesive plan, draft based on strength and not rarity. Don't forget to try and get some removal.
When I draft, I usually pick the best card from pack 1 and build with it, unless I see nothing useful in that colour by pick 3 or 4.
In DKA/INN/INN, tribal drafting can work, but it can also be really hard if someone else tries it. Don't underestimate things like Feed the Pack, those outright win games.
And for the love of god, don't talk while you're drafting. Yeah, it's fucking fantastic that you pulled a Snapcaster pack 3 or a Sorin pack 1, but the rest of the table doesn't need to know. (/petpeeve)-

Oh they're usually worth it, even if you just splash for them, but don't JUST take them because they're expensive (This is also assuming you want to win rather than break even money-wise).
Also, don't forget that hate-drafting (picking a card you don't want to see against you) is an entirely viable tactic, even if it'll get you hated by the rest of your table. Don't do it if it'll hurt your deck, but if it's late in the draft and the rest of the pack is useless to you, then you take that Bloodline Keeper so no one else gets it.
P-EDIT: I agree with Sens, to a point. Taking a Snapcaster Mage in a late pack is entirely correct, since you just paid for your night.-

WRR has a strong midgame, but loses to fast decks and anything that can shut down their bombs.
I played U/B Heartless tonight at FNM. Went 3-2 on the night, should have been 4-1, but I made some really bad mistakes in G4 that cost me the match. Dungeon Geists continuing to be the sleeper MVP while Havengul Lich soaks up the limelight.-

If you've got 5 bucks to spend and you want to learn the rules, Duels of the Planeswalkers is on sale on Steam this weekend. Really good for learning the game, and the Challenges really get you to start thinking about your cards in different ways.-

I feel so old when It comes to MTG.
Also @Sensfan: do pauper tourneys require tickets too? Or is it just a casual room where you go around playing randoms for no prize?
Here's a quick breakdown of the past 4 sets:
Shards of Alara: Wedge coloured theme, lots of gold cards (last set is entirely gold), each shard has its own theme (Esper is artifacts, Grixis has unearth, Jund has Devour, Naya has "power 5 or greater", and Bant has Exalted)
Zendikar: Adventure land. Has a "land matters" theme in the first two sets, "landfall" keyword is the big one. Last set was Rise of the Eldrazi, standalone large set. Annihilator mechanic, Eldrazi Spawn, and otherwise abandoning of the past themes
Scars of Mirrodin: Artifact-heavy block. Lots of decent equipment, strong artifact creatures. "Metalcraft" keyword and "Infect" keyword. Infect is on the Phyrexian cards only, and is a mashup of wither and player-wither (10 infect damage = 10 poison counters and GG)
Innistrad: Gothic Horror land. Tribal themes (Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, Spirits, Humans), but it's "not a tribal block". Morbid and Undying are the two big keywords as of now, but Avacyn Restored (3rd set in the block) is adding a bunch of keywords, including Miracles, which look absolutely fun.
Unrelated, but I went on my MTGO account yesterday, sold off all my collection from drafts. Got 14 tix for the whole thing, played a Cube Swiss draft. Won 2 packs, opened them, pulled two mythics and a good rare. Sold those, and I now officially have a Standard deck to play on there.-

Sigarda's basically just unkillable in G/B/R/U, outside of a handful of specific cards (BSZ, Blasphemous Act). Most of the Black decks right now run spot removal, and Tribute to Hunger as a way to deal with Hexproofs. this just makes it even more unkillable. In post 257, Sudo_Nym wrote:
Not sure what Sigarda is supposed to be good for. Are there a lot of sac effects after you hit 5 mana?

The 2/2 that gives another guy Double Strike is pretty good as a replacement for Mirran Crusader after rotation.-

I've been playing for 2 weeks
i fail to see your fucking point
My point is I think I'm getting lip from people who can't put their money where their mouth is.
Because of course we're all 12 years old. Getting "lip" is not the same as stating opinions and why one disagrees with them, which is what this thread has contained.-

Get creatures with higher toughness, so that his burn spells can't touch them unless he doubles up, then when he goes in to topdeck mode, beat him to death with card advantage.
http://magiccards.info/query?q=o%3Aflyi ... card&s=cmc
This is a list of all creatures with flying (or reach, but that's a program problem) that have a toughness greater than 3.
EDIT: Grey, he's just started playing. What do you think the odds are that any of his playgroup even own a SoWaP?-

In post 437, xRECKONERx wrote:I hated my pulls. Not a single mythic and my rares were shit. The only decent rare pull I got was Divine Deflection, which actually won me a couple of games. I ended up going white/green, because I had so many cheap humans + bomb ass angels that it made sense for me to throw in the Pathbreaker Wurm with Trample Soulbond and the Druid's Familiar with +2/+2 Soulbond. I also had an INSANE amount of removal for a set that supposedly lacks removal, but in the end I only wound up 3-3. I will say the last match I played was bullshit, as I played against some rules stickler who wouldn't let me mulligan because I had drawn my cards already before we decided who was going to go first or something bullshit like that, so I wound up with a 1-mana starting draw and STILL almost beat him.
I'm actually really interested to see what I can do with my UW spirit deck from INN/DKA mixed in with all the new angels.
I would've called a judge. I'm like 90% sure that's completely against the rules.-

I like it, but Marrow Bats and Wingcrafter seem like bad choices. I'd run Invisible Stalkers, personally. Stick that with a Homicidal Seclusion and you're basically set.
Also, equipments are always nice things to have. Spectral Flight also wouldn't be a wasted slot. Comes down early, makes everything a threat. Allows the possibility of T1 Fume Spitter (Or Delver, or Diregraf Ghoul, or Typhoid Rats), T2 Flight, swing 3.-

I drafted last night too. Has 0 luck for bombs, but had a solid R/G Aggro deck. In any other Limited Environment, I would have been golden. Unfortunately, AVR Limited means that I got blown out by other people with better bombs every time.
That said, I got an idea for a standard deck from it, so it's not a total bust. Simic unblockables, here I come.-
