TBM, that second replay was intense, glad you didn't buckle under pressure.

Basically what FATE said (caps intentional ). Protoss (if played correctly) has a lot of power late in the game. If you don't pressure them, they pretty much get free reign to expand as much as they please. Lots of expansions, lots of warpgates = fun!ReaperCharlie wrote:I thought turtling only worked as Terran. I'm going to start working on making this happen. If you're interested, you should post about it.Flameaxe wrote:

If we have enough, I don't see why we can't have a 2v2 league and a 1v1 league (I just despise 2v2, and 3v3, and 4v4...)

JDodge

Eight seems like a good number. Not sure how to do the league itself. Was thinking about doing an 'everybody plays everybody' season style to figure out seeding for a tourney, thoughts?Last edited by Flameaxe on Sun Jan 09, 2011 9:11 am, edited 1 time in total.Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

Alright, part bump, part wanting input. Talking with JD about how to format it all, and we have two options:
-One giant round robin where everyone plays everyone once, leading to a seeded 8p single elimination bracket.
-Two smaller "division" round robins of 4/5 players, where the top two of each division moves on to a 4p single elimination bracket.
It basically boils down to the commitment of playing on the upwards of (minimum) 8/9 games vs. playing a minimum of 3/4 games. Obviously, organizing times to play against 4 people is a lot easier than 8.
As for smaller details, the bracket stages will most likely be a best of three, map 1 chosen by the higher seed, map 2 by the lower seed, map three randomly generated? We can do that or give each player two map vetoes from the list of 1v1 maps and figure it out from there. We'll use the standard set of 1v1 maps used in ladder play (Jungle Basin, Scrap Station, Steppes ofCheeseWar, Xel'Naga Caverns, Delta Quadrant, Lost Temple, Metalopolis).
I was going to mention something else, but I can't remember.Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

And frequently!
Edit: Closed it off at 10 (sans tans), and seeded them according to league placement and then 1v1 points scored. Of course, only 5 of the 10 had points to begin with, so we randomly seeded the rest 6-10. We split the seeds across both groups close to evenly.
Group One:
Seed 1 SaintKerrigan (Z)
Seed 4 Fate (?)
Seed 5 Flameaxe (P)
Seed 8 JDodge (R)
Seed 9 UA (T)
Group Two:
Seed 2 Marksman (My roommate, by the way. Playercode 977) (Z)
Seed 3 Claus (T?)
Seed 6 Zito (T)
Seed 7 Quag (P)
Seed 10 PEG (P)
You play each person in your group once, report it here I guess. Spectators are totally cool, refs aren't (obviously, don't want any talkie talkie from a third-party). We can call this the official starting point, unless someone has any pressing issues with the format or whatever. Speak up if you do, no harm done really. We won't have any set deadlines or schedules for completing games, but be reasonable. Map rules are on the last page, any suggestions on how to determine which map for the group stage matches would be cool. Top two advance to the knockout stage, 1st place group 1 vs 2nd place group 2, 1st place group 2 vs. 2nd place group one. In theory, we should all have one race we stick to throughout, but I don't see a huge reason to be strict on that.Last edited by Flameaxe on Sun Jan 09, 2011 5:00 pm, edited 2 times in total.Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

Edited the post above with seeding info and stuff. Regarding ICCup maps, we might want to hold off for the "BSL Season One" as I call it. (BSL = Bad (at) Starcraft League). A few new players would probably benefit from sticking to blizzard ladder maps to start.Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

There are none, if you four gate correctly you should have won already.Quagmire wrote:What are some good mid-to-late toss game strategies after 4gating?
Serious answer: What PEG said, and don't rely on four gate quite as often. 3 gate robo does plenty of wonders too (3 gate star works too if you want).Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

But the difference is, he had his main building in the air, off the map. He can't collect resources, and he can't sustain an army, so he really can't make the argument that he's playing for the win (at the time he had maybe two marines scattered about, and one starport to make vikings of all things.)Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

The campaign is fun, but really won't help you in the long run. If anything, hit up the challenges off to the side of the single player menu. They will be much, much more helpful than the campaign. They will also help you with the other two questions for that matter.
That and what Shanba said, basically. AI games are a good way to start practicing a build order and figuring out hotkeys and stuff.Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

My few cents: Basically, a 3 gate proxy isn't very strong from my own experience. If you get 3 gates, you might as well get that 4th and make it a 4gate. To be honest, your transition wasn't terrible. The only thing I'd say would be to choose a robo bay or stargate to tech, not both (at least at that point, later on it really doesn't matter). Also, if you go for Colossi, research and chrono boost extended thermal lance from the robo bay. It really is a must have for the colossi. Fill your army with a good chunk of stalkers and sentries, and start some upgrades from the forge as soon as you can afford it.
Thats what comes to mind from me, inb4diamond corrects me.Defined by who I dislike, not who I like~-
