Anti-proxy measures coming soon

Howdy all,

We're starting to have some issues with people using anonymizers and proxies to circumvent the rules of the site. Because of this, I'm going to start taking counter measures.

I'm going to start with blocking about 1000 known proxy IPs. If you are using any of these tools and cannot post, this will likely be the reason. I'll continue by blocking anything that resolves to a known anonymizer.

Also, if you registered from one of those IPs, I will be contacting you and asking you to post without an anonymizer. If you refuse, your account will be banned until mith is convinced that you are not breaking any rules. If you agree, there will be no issues.

We do NOT use your IP for any nefarious purposes. We're only starting to use them in order to help us keep the site running smoothly. If the people using anonymous alts hadn't been causing problems, we would probably have just turned a blind eye. But since it appears they are using them to cheat and cause trouble, we have to do something.

It's possible that I can set up a bypass for specific users. It would need to be approved by mith.

It's unlikely that your school will be on the list of known anonymizers.

Right... if you use an anonymizer to get around school restrictions (but what kind of moron administrator doesn't shut down the most common anonymizers along with the sites they are trying to restrict?)

If you use a proxy, contact mith. I can look into making exceptions for specific users- if there is enough reason to.

Using a proxy is no problem. It's using an anonymous/open proxy. It's really only the anonymizers that I'm targetting.

Briefly: Everyone is allowed to have multiple accounts unless you break a rule. Notably: You cannot play in a game with yourself and you cannot use the alt to get around game limit restrictions.
