The Magna Carta (Rules for Being A Colonial):

You are a colonial! The fun and exciting world of high-tension politics awaits you. You start out either as king of a nation, in which case you get the easy job you lucky bastard, or as the governor of a colony. As King, your job is to build your nation to be the best empire in the new world. Each round, you may do one of the following:

Force a battle

- This goes into effect on the next turn. The colony you issue this order to must go to battle against the colony of your choice.

Force a trade

- This goes into effect on the next turn. The colony you issue this order to must trade with the colony of your choice.

Tax colony

- A percentage of the colony's wealth (determined by you) goes into your treasury.

In addition, you may also do an unlimited number of the following:

Issue a bounty on a pirate

- In order to do this, said pirate must have committed 3 offenses against your nation.

Increase naval strength

- Spend money from the national treasury to increase the naval strength of your nation.

Increase naval defense

- Spend money from the national treasury to increase the naval defense of your nation.

Declare war

- This goes into effect on the next turn. You will declare war on another nation.

Negotiate peace

- You will offer peace to the nation of your choice. They may either accept or reject this offer.

Give gold

- You will give gold from the national treasury to the colony of your choice.

As a Governor, your job is to build the safest and most prosperous colony you possibly can. Each round, you may do one of the following:

Battle with a colony

- You will send your armies to attack a colony. This may cause the colony to swap allegiances to your nation. You may only do this if your nation is at war with the nation whose colony you are attacking.

Buy/sell from a colony

- You will buy/sell items with a colony of your choice. The other colony cannot refuse buying and selling.

Start revolution

- You will start a revolution against your current king. The value of your vote is equal to your influence. If a simple majority of yes votes is reached, the king will be removed from his throne, and the governor with the highest influence who voted for the revolution will switch places with the king.

In addition, you may also do an unlimited number of the following:

Increase army strength

- Spend gold to increase the army strength of your colony.

Increase army defense

- Spend gold to increase the army defense of your colony.

Build fortifications

- Spend gold to increase your fortifications.

Issue Letters of Marque

- Issue Letters of Marque to the pirate(s) of your choice, offering gold and trade goods in exchange for their services. They do
not
have to accept this. You may send them to attack a colony or attack a fellow pirate.

Trade with a Colony

- Trade goods with another colony. The other colony has the right to refuse any trade.

During each turn, each governor and king must give 1 influence point to any other governor or king (you may give influence to the governor/king of another nation).

Upgrade Prices

2nd level - 52
3rd level - 104
4th level - 156
5th level - 208
6th level - 260
7th level - 312

Winner Takes All (How To Win This Game):

There will be two winners to this game. The pirates winner, and the politics winners.

The Pirate winner will be determined based on a number of factors, but will mostly be based on gold. Pirates who retire from the game are still eligible to win.

The Politics winners will be the strongest nation based on numerous factors, but will mostly be based on economy, population and army/navy strength.

To be /in as a pirate, simply choose a ship. To be /in as a politician, choose a nation. You will be randomly assigned to either a kingship or a governorship.

Darox wrote:Just so I've got this straight.

Goods is basically the crew population cap. We can only has as much crew as we have goods.

Crew determines how effective the ship is in combat, and increases based on total wealth, up to the population cap.

Spice and luxury are interchangeable resources that, besides differing prices in the various colonies, are functionally the same, and are only useful to sell to increase your wealth or to trade with.

Is that right?
Crew determines how effective the ship is in combat. You have a chance to increase your crew whenever you trade with a port or sack another ship.

Forgot what we decided on this. Will get back to you later.

All attack orders are treated as separate, but you may attack the same colony as another pirate.
Darox wrote:When trading, can you make as many transactions as you like in one turn?

Can you gain crew in the same turn you bought the Goods needed to support them?
Yes, but you may only trade with one colony per turn. I'm going to give a tentative yes on the second, but I'll have to consult with UA on that.

Please note that the starting gold for colonies has been changed, and another economic rule has been added to the end of the first post. In addition, kings will be able to give gold to their colonies.

PLEASE THANK STARK FOR POINTING OUT THESE ISSUES WITH THE ECONOMY

And with xelada's sign-up, England is now full.

The governor of Port Royale is stark!

The governor of Grand Bahama is Drench!

The governor of Nassau is xelada!

Which means that England is lead by its new king, Lord Gurgi!

We still need 1 for France and 2 for Spain.

The game begins.

All pirates, send orders to UltimaAvalon.

All colonials, send orders to me. Deadline is at 3:35 PM EST, Jan 31.

Note to all colonials: Something which I forgot to put in the original rules is that you can only add 3 to your three strengths per turn. For example, you can buy 1 of each in army strength, army defense, and fortifications, or you can buy 2 of one and 1 of another, or 3 of one type.

Prices for the first purchases will be PM'd to everyone.

Good luck!

There are going to be two rules adjustments for 1605.

#1. Your first orders submitted are final.

#2. Buying/selling is going to be separated from straight goods trades in the colonial orders.

Upgrade prices are now in the third post.

Also note that there was an error in the colonial order summary; I forgot to mention a very important fact.
