(Stolen from various people and modified as I see fit)
  • * Votes must be made in

    * A majority of votes by the living players is required to lynch. The number of players alive, and the number of votes needed to lynch will be posted in each vote count and will always be in the first post. You may
    Vote: No Lynch
    if you do not wish to lynch anybody during the day. Once a lynch (or No Lynch) has occurred, no changes in votes or pleas for survival will be accepted.
    * In the event that discussion is lagging, I will implement a deadline. If there is no majority vote at the deadline, then No Lynch will occur.
    * Once you have been killed, you are dead. A "Bah" post is acceptable, but no game-relevant information may be posted. This includes posts by a lynched player during Twilight.
    * You may not edit or delete any posts. You may not use "invisible" text or [co
    lor=black] tags either.
    * You may not communicate with any player outside the thread unless specifically stated in your role PM.
    * You may not quote any out-of-thread communications, such as role PMs.

The Case of the Crushed King


The day started off as normally as a day could around Grimshire Games. Poor Mr. Grimshire didn't have any customers... again. As sad as it was for him, it was even sadder for us. Games are meant to be
played
-- especially games as extraordinariy as we are! Twenty mysteries, and not a single one had been solved... A man of my talents should be utilized, not made to rot in a box! After lounging around for a bit, I made my way out of the box to mingle with the others.

There was quite a ruckuss when I left the box; everyone seemed in a tizzy for some reason, and they were gathered near one corner of the shelf. I made my way over to the other pieces were huddled together, and the reason for the excitement became quite obvious.

"Chess... who would do such a thing to Chess?!?"

"I cannot bear to look at this any longer. What are we going to do?"


The kings were dead. Along with every other Chess piece. Pawns shatered, board broken in several places. Something sinister had happened. I instnatly knew that it would be my task -- my duty -- to help the other eighteen board games bring these perpetrators to justice. I gathered everybody together, and I spoke to them very calmly, very deliberately.

"My friends, we have an enemy amidst our shelf full of games. They pose a very obvious and a very serious threat to each of us. It seems to me that we have little chioce but to examine the clues, talk with each other, and try to determine who is behind everything. Now, here is what we are going to do..."


I proposed a system of daily lynches based on a majority vote by the other board games. As I was heading the investigation, I elected to abstain from voting so that I could handle administrative work such as tallying votes, keeping a general eye on the participants, and hunting for clues around the crime scene and in the boxes of the lychees. The other games, for the most part, seemed to agree. With that, we began to seek out our killers that we might solve the crime which plauged our tiny corner of the world.




It is now Day One. With 18 alive, it takes 10 to lynch.

As the day wore on, we soon decided that "livingod" was a part of the nefarious plot to take over the store. He remained silent even as we converged on him. The townspeople ripped and smashed and broke pieces of livingod until he was no more.

As they did so, I began to search his box for any clue as to what Livingod might have been. Sadly, I found no sign of foul play on his part. Indeed, I failed to find a board at all. We had killed an innocent game. Alas, it was too late to continue our trend. I ordered the town to retire for the evening, and I requested that they rest up for another full day tomorrow.

The Scrambled Scrabble


I awoke this morning and began going about my daily routines, when my breakfast was interrupted by an alarmed citizen. The individual requested that I accompany him to the left-hand side of the shelf, where I soon found out that another innocent board game had been destroyed.

Cheesefan
was lying, well... more scattered than usual. Letter bag ripped open, board once again smashed in half -- it appeared as though somebody (or some bodies) had attacked him violently and relentlessly. The results were sickening. His letter tiles had been scratched to such a degree that they were completely unrecognizable. As some began to give Cheesefan a proper burial (in the trash can), I examined Scrabble's box and murder scene with more scrutiny. I determined that Scrabble was indeed an innocent.

I paused for a moment to gather my thoughts. I gritted my teeth and turned to address the town, and we began another day of investigations and debate.......

The evening wore on, and I called for action, noting that the day was to end very soon. In a sudden frenzy, my fellow games flew into something of a rage, suddenly turning on and pointing fingers at "Battle Mage."

"He is evil! He doesn't care which innocent games he gets killed!

"Yes! Let us be rid of him forever! He must perish immediately!


They began to push Battle Mage towards the edge of the shelf, not allowing him even a chance to defend or explain himself. Kison chimed in.
"You're going to die!"


With a forceful shove, Kison launched Battle Mage off of the edge of the shelf. Standing frozen in shock, Kison and the rest of us watched as BM sailed through the air, ricocheted off of another shelf, and smashed into the ground. It was immediately evident that nobody could have survived such a violent fall.

"No... I... I didn't mean-"


Without another word, I silently turned to BM's area to check his personal belongings. It wasn't long before I found him to be... well, certainly malicious. I gathered the town immediately, whereupon they heaved a collective, if unsteady, sigh of relief. I instructed everybody to turn in for the night, so that we may continue our search for BM's mates tomorrow.

My eyes scanned over the scene several times as I tried to work out what was going on. There were two "bodies" so to speak. The one I was currently examining was a bloody mess. Pads of paper and little pencils lay ripped or broken literally everywhere, all that remained of Logicticus. What alarmed me more was the warning that had been... well, drawn... using Logic's own game pieces:

I shook my head and searched what was left of the Pictionary Box. It appeared as though Logicticus was able to draw pictures to send to other players at night.

From there, I made my way towards the other crime scene. I passed a handful of townies along the way. Some looked back frightened, while others gazed off into space, their faces blank or showing a grim determination to press on.

When I arrived at Cogito Ergo Sum's remnants, I saw that his remains were already being processed. Unfortunately, there wasn't much left of CES to be seen. He had been completely annihilated. I noticed scorch marks on the shelf near him, and saw that cards and the board itself had been badly burned. Nevertheless, I managed to gather that CES, Candyland, was capable of protecting others using his own magical candy.

I once again gathered the survivors together and informed them of the night's happenings....

Deadline is pending how my own life shakes down in the next week. I am uncertain of my activity, what with graduation and moving coming up in the near future, but until then I don't really feel comfortable putting in a deadline right now.

Also, if I actually anticipate being away for a significant period of time, Primate has agreed to step in to keep an eye on things: Vote Counts, possibly modprods if necessary. If the game goes to night, still send night choices to me; I still anticipate being able to get on-site every couple of days or so.

Amidst the clamoring and accusations, one game, "Kison," had risen to the top. Monopoly had been accused of being part of the conspiracy -- a producer of counterfeit funds, no doubt -- and was about to... well, about to go bankrupt.

The townspeople converged on Kison, who offered little resistance and allowed himself to succumb to the will of the others. As the last bits of life were snuffed from his pieces, the town went into an uproar and began burning Monopoly money in celebration.

But it was a mistake.

Kison was not a conspirator. He was not here to take over the shelf. He was nothing more than a simple townsperson. I informed the others of this, and celebration turned to worry. We all returned to our boxes and prepared for another night, wondering if we would live to see the light of day.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly


Two more bodies. The ones called Thesp and Jalyn were both obliterated.

Jalyn was crushed, smashed, ripped, and battered. Letters and words from her trivia cards had been ripped to create another sinister message:

"YOU MIGHT BE NEXT"

After the customary examination of Jalyn's box and surroundings, I concluded that she was not a threat to the town. Things were beginning to look desperate... but my spirits were about to be uplifted somewhat.

Thesp's pieces -- beads, dice, board -- were found smoldering amongst more scorch marks on the shelf. But near Thesp's box were found some shreds of paper, indicating that he was a part of this conspiracy! With this newfound boost of enthusiasm, I reported to the other games what had happened. The situation was still very serious, but perhaps there was a glimmer of hope....

Well... it seems that I have no choice but to modkill CTD now.

I apologize to everybody else in the game, especially CTD. Twito's disappearance for more than a week prompted his replacement. After I had prodded him and he failed to pick up the prod in 72 hours, which is my designated leeway time for picking up modprods -- I had even stated in the game thread that players who fail to pick up their prods within 72 hours will be replaced unless they show up before I can find a replacement. Twito posted in thread asking about why he was replaced, and I affirmed why I made the decision and that I chose to keep CTD as a replacement. I never heard from Twito again (other than from a simultaneous and nearly identical PM, which I felt I had already responded to). Apparently has made his attitude on this matter well-known.

After Chutes and Ladders had dived off of the shelf to certain doom, the rest of us ultimately decided that the game called "DragonsofSummer" was next to go. Though he asserted that he was Railroad Tycoon, he was run up and his box was searched. It was soon apparent that he had something to hide. He was not as he claimed, but was discovered to be Parcheesi. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that like Chutes and Ladders, he had the ability to thwart others' actions. I quickly reported my findings to the surviving board games, and there came another collective sigh of relief.

August 21, 9:00 AM -- Back Corner of the Shelf
Hope Rising


I walked along the wall, examining the scorch marks once again. A charred scrap of a card, which spelled out "Mr. Gr" fluttered past me. Clue's board had holes burned into it -- several rooms had been obliterated completely. The game pieces were all blackened and melted.

I looked around for the familiar weapons which came with "HackerHuck's" game set, but I couldn't find them. All I saw were more bits and pieces of cards, as the pungent smell of molten plastic filled my nostrils.

Finally, I headed towards the box, determined to find some hint as to Clue's motivations. There, underneath the rules insert, I noticed it -- a stash of weaponry. The Rope, Lead Pipe, and Revolver were all sitting neatly placed in the corner of the box. Upon further inspection of these items, I realized that the Lead Pipe had seen a rather heavy amount of use lately. I flipped through the player's notepads and soon noticed plans for killing off other members of the town. Unfortunately, they seemed to stop just before I could glean any information about who these games might try to victimize next. Nevertheless, I knew I had good news to report. Clue was very likely the ringleader of this operation, and now he was no more.

As I mused about the implications of this incident, a Deuce of Spades from a playing card set ran up to me.

"Sir, sir! Ectomancer went missing overnight, and we searched for where he could be. We found him pushed over the edge of the shelf... he didn't... survive."


The small card's voice trailed off. I frowned as I made my way as quickly as possible to the edge of the shelf. Sure enough, Trivial Pursuit was found scattered about the floor. Not only had he been launched off of the shelf, but I noticed that his question cards had also been ripped and torn, and the board seemed horribly smashed. This had clearly been more sinister work -- and whomever was behind this was getting even more aggressive and more violent. Nevertheless, even from this distance, it was apparent that Trivial Pursuit, for all the knowledge it contained, was attempting to discern the identities (or, at least, the motivations) of the other board games.

I hastily gathered the six remaining board games together and reported the night's happenings. Again, the others set off to begin discussing what to do... and who would be next.

We decided to run up "Fritzler" today. He didn't say or do much as he was led to the edge of the shelf, asserting that he was probably the one to go that day. After his death, I searched his box. He was, as claimed, Diplomacy -- a selfish, scheming person -- but he had ultimately decided that his allegiances lay with most of us.

A RISKy situation


Dawn. Another death... but only one this time. The game known as IH was found dead this morning, the all-too-familiar scorch marks searing his board, melting his figurines, burning country cards. There seemed to be little, if anything, left to examine. Yet scrawled on the back of some of the card fragments, I was able to piece together that RISK was in communication with at least one other player. I managed to confirm that he had the town's best interests at heart.

I called the remaining board games together. Other than myself, only four representatives remained. We all knew that our ordeal was steadily approaching its climax. With heavy hearts and grim looks, we set out for the sixth time to decide which player to evict from the shelf.

I woke up this morning. Good to know, considering I wasn't sure if I'd survive the night myself. However, there was one unfortunate soul who did not survive the night. The one called "Sefer" had met an unfortunate end. The melted plastic, the burnt cardboard... these familiar odors filled my nostrils, causing me to choke as I examined the death scene. As usual, I examined Sefer's remains for any sign of foul intentions on his own part... and I found none. It appeared as though, as Sefer claimed, he was merely an ordinary board game seeking to avenge the deaths of his comrades.

For the last time, I will summon the remaining board games together. For the last time, I will watch as they begin to discuss which among them is scum. The game is about to reach a thrilling conclusion. I can only wonder if we will win or be destroyed.

Endgame


It is nearly noon, and the three other games have just determined their fate. With the ones called "Nightfall" and "Zindaras" pointing fingers at each other, the decision has come down to Xiangqi...




Zindaras and Nightfall grappled near the edge of the shelf, as Thok glanced back and forth between the two. His mind racing, Thok weighed his options.

"It's him, I tell you. I've only tried to follow your lead, and I've worked to eliminate the other scumbags,"
Nightfall appealed, struggling to maintain his balance, tiny plastic red and white pegs skitting off of the edge.

"No... no, Nightfall. You're going to die here and now."


Thok crashed headfirst into the pair of games, his face twisted in grim resolve. With a mighty surge, Thok and Zindaras forced Nightfall off the shelf. Neither even bothered to watch him fall to his untimely demise and instead turned to each other warily.

"....well?"

"'Well,' what?"


Thok and Zindaras stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity, when another voice suddenly broke the silence.

"Well done, games! Well done indeed!"
Glork marched up to the two and embraced each of them in turn.

"So... Zindaras isn't a killer?"

"Of course not, of course not. I had figured it all out, almost right from the start. I just, erm... wanted to see if you folks could do it, too. Nightfall was working alone, as you correctly surmised. It would seem as though he just wanted to take advantage of the situation to wreak as much havoc as possible."


Zindaras raised his voice.
"You mean to say that you knew the culprits and let us kill each other off without a care in the world?"

"Well, no, not exactly... heh heh. What I meant was -- NO, NO, STOP THAT THIS INSTANT!!"


Before Glork could finish, Thok and Zindaras seized him and made to hurtle him off of the shelf. Though they did not drop him, the two games held him off of the edge, demanding an explanation.

"Okay, okay, so I didn't know who did it. I just... I didn't want you to think that I wasn't as capable a detective as you two. I mean, you played the games and managed to come out alive. I guess... I guess I was quite worthless throughout this entire ordeal."


Thok and Zindaras glanced at each other, then sighed and dragged Glork back onto the shelf. There were clearly going to have to be some serious rennovations to what was left of the shelf. Mr. Grimshire had ordered new games to replace the mysteriously damaged merchandise, and the three survivors had to make the shelf suitable for their new companions.

You're Scrabble, the popular word game of Hasbro. Since you've got a plethora of tiles to use, you'll be damned if you don't try to help the town out in some way. Each night, you may send me one word or sentence, which I will format and send to your target. Be careful, though... your message will not arrive in the same way it was sent. For example, if you said "I'm really full," the message recieved will read "AE FILLLL MRUY" -- it will be your target's task to unscramble them. You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.


Pictionary -- Inventor
You are Pictionary, the classic drawing game. Your job is to draw things and, well... inspire others to guess (and act upon) your drawings. You have three things which you can draw during the course of the game: A dead body, truth, and a shield. Each night, you may choose to draw one of these things using this website (in greyscale, and without using letters, numbers, or symbols). If you choose to send a drawing, you will send me the link of your drawing along with the player you are targeting. That player will recieve the drawing and may use the appropriate action on the following night. Use the "save & send" function (in the toolbar on the left of the pad) when you are finished, and click the link where it says "If you'd rather not send this painting to your friends but would like a link anyway, click here." Copy the link given and send it to me. I will check the drawing (to ensure its integrity) and send it along to the target. You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Though you were always just a little bit jealous of Chess, you're still both outraged and terrified at his death. Though you're but a simple, normal game, you still want to play a part in setting things right. You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Aaaaand, other thoughts:
  • Scrabble was to be mostly useless except as a confirmable ability.
  • I did consider for quite some time having a scum Mason, but decided not to do so this time around.
  • Nightfall's play was, IMO, brilliant... as he stated when he claimed Vig, he tried to send in a night action, but the PM was lost somewhere. Sometime after D2 started, he asked for confirmation on whether I'd recieved it, but I never did. I felt it was too late into D2 to go back and change everything, so I had to leave it as no kill. I think Nightfall handled it rather well, though.
  • I wasn't as pleased with the Mercenary role as I had hoped. The lurking D1/D2 didn't make me happy, though I perfectly understand Fritz's desire to do so. My original version gave the Merc a VigKill if he joined the town, an extra DayKill if he joined the Mafia, and made a two-person mafia with the SK if he targeted the SK. I decided the extra kills were too swingy, though, so I took them out. (Needless to say, Fritz was sorely disappointed that he never got to kill as a Mercenary.)
  • Overall, I was pretty pleased with the balance... it might have been slightly in favor of the town, but I felt that the mafia as a whole played very poorly. BM melted down D1, DoS made a bad claim, and Nightfall was able to peg the other scums rather easily.

Thanks to everyone who played, and especially the players who replaced into the game... I apologize for the Twito incident, but I'm afraid there wasn't anything else I could do. Anyone and everyone else is welcome to join my next Theme Park game, which will likely get started in December '07. It will either be Boondock Saints Mafia (based on the cult classic move -- with Mr. Flay as co-designer/co-mod!) or Weather Mafia (mechancially themed game in which each day and night has a predetermined "weather" which may affect roles and/or game mechanics).

Thanks for all of the input/feedback, guys. I had an absolute blast modding, and I hoped you all enjoyed it, too.



One question, Nightfall: Why did you choose to claim Battleship/Vig instead of (Something)/Townie?
