Seraphim, I've seen people playing like that before. They don't usually try to group policy lynch, they usually just tunnel hardcore and find scumtells where there aren't any. It's actually rather annoying when it happens.

I can think of a few reasons. Namely, scum trying to prolong the random stage so that they can get a handle on who the weak link in town is.

Seraphim, I've found that it's always scum who try to draw out the RVS in order to get it a bit closer to deadline before the actual play begins. It's usually not close enough to make a difference, but it gives a bit extra time to look for either breadcrumbs (in a theme game) or slight PR-tells.

I think Richard is town, but very whiny town. And not by a big slot either. He seems to grasp the game quite well, but his little tantrum and subsequent backpedaling to say he was reaction-fishing just seems really forced. He seems to be playing the newbie-scum stereotype quite fully.

A little of both. I'm getting considerably better.

Reading over Richard in iso, it's not his posting, rather his timing that seems suspicious. He seems to be almost panicking in his iso-5 post, aimed at farside questioning her vote, but within an hour switches to "Just lynch me". The only thing that changed was Farside disagreeing and Seraphim voting. That dramatic a turnaround and AtE seems very much like scum trying to cry their way out.

Then within three posts and two-ish hours, he seemingly rallies and backpedals to "I was reaction-fishing". He then throws in another AtE on Porochaz asking for sympathy. I think Porochaz sums it up nicely in post 149:
Porochaz wrote:Also what reactions were you planning on getting here? All I can see you getting is annoyed WTF is he doing posts.
Gambits are only gambits if you can actually get useful info from them. He then starts to lurk a bit as soon as the attention turns to Anon and Doc, who hadn't posted. As soon as Anon posts, he switches his story again to being frustrated and says that overreaction is just how he plays.

And then we get to now, and then I don't know what happens.

Those are your results? For someone who was clearly calculated to attempt a tantrum-gambit, you really didn't do anything with it. What about CKD in 135? Porochaz's 138? What about in 143 where you say you're "just being a jerk"? Was that part of the gambit? If it was, then why did you add in the AtE at the end of 146?

I think you have some valid points. I've been flipflopping on my read of Richard because I couldn't really get a handle on him. He's played a bit like I did in my first Newbie game, but he's also acting scummy. His "results" really affirmed my thoughts though.

Jahudo wrote: @BV: Who says that argument is never used by pro-town players?

I don't think you've really explained why you found Papa Zito town enough not to consider it a possibility. You specifically asked someone else for "possible benefits", so did you also assume that they (or the town in general) would not need to consider a Papa Zito scum as a possibility?

Or was your question merely rhetorical? In which case, why ask it? Were you using it to start a suspicion on Esperonage?
I didn't say Never, but I don't see it used by town all that often. I still don't feel like PZ is scum though. None of his posting so far comes even close to scummy.

My question wasn't rhetorical, I thought maybe Esp wanted to point out an odd post. On seeing the other points against her, something does seem off though.

Mostly for reasons that have already been stated re: Richard and Esp. ABR just smells scummy to me based on the sheer lack of contribution and jumping on wagons. I feel like CKD could be scum pushing a mislynch under the guise of a policy lynch, and Farside is for the reason stated.

As for three of four, I don't feel that both CKD and Richard are scum. If they are, then they win the record for quickest bussing in a game.
