Plum, I think I can answer your questions by saying I play on gut and tone. I rarely makes large cases, because my reads are based on intuition, not rationality. It would be difficult if not impossible to communicate one of my reads to others, because I don't funnly understand them myself.

I find 8 scum to be too high- it would be more than a third of the total players.
7 scum is within the range of possibility. That would give us 6 alive now, so we would lose if we lynched 3 more townies without hitting scum.
Starting with 6 scum means 5 alive now, giving us 5 lynches.
Starting with 5 scum leaves 4 alive and 7 lynches.
4 is unlikely, but in any case we'd have 9 lynches.
In other words, we have at least 3 lynches and probably closer to 5 or 7. That's pretty far from LYLO in terms of a normal game, especially considering we only saw 1 kill. Note that this assumes 1 scumteam.

This is my third game and I am still confused as to why lurking is a definite scum-tell.

As lurking scum, you should be exquisitely aware of all the advantages you are deriving from keeping a low profile. Unfortunately, we're on to that strategy of not implicating oneself while letting other players take the risks, and associated flak for wrong decisions.

That's assuming that I am actually scum, and you are assuming the worst. The strategy I use (lurking) is not exclusively to let others take the risks, but to allow me to look things over in my head and in RL days to come, offer my thoughts. Yes, in part, I lurk to avoid suspicion - because I want to stay in the game, even though I win with whatever team I'm on, even if I die. It's a habit I've picked up over my few games.

But it's only Days 1/2 and maybe three that I plan to lurk. After that, you might be able to expect more out of me.

This is an extremely bad argument in several ways.
The number of lynches we are allowed per day is infinite. So far we have had 7 flips. That's a huge amount for a normal game. The resemblance between this game's Days and a standard game's Days are slim at best.
Lurking does not help town members avoid suspicion. It is a huge and widely accepted scumtell. Town members don't care about avoiding suspicion, they care about killing scum. The hypothetical benefits of not suspecting you because you are lurking are far outweighed by the suspicion you garner by lurking.
This is a 22 player game. The benefits of not contributing in hopes of living to endgame are much less than the benefits of contributing in the hopes of catching scum.

Hold on a sec, I have some problems with your lynching concept.
Here's how I see it. We have an investigative neighborhood plus two cops in ortolan and nhammen (dead). In a game this size I'd be more surprised to not see a godfather than to see one. So I don't think results are too conclusive. On the other hand, you have the last 3 members of our neighborhood in your lynch list. The problem: you are so sure that there is a scum in our neighborhood that you can just lynch us one by one, and each time we flip town you can just say "oops, the scum must be the next one." We can fall behind on numbers that way.

On every odd night, we can use the track and send someone the results. On even nights we have to give someone outside the neighborhood a 1-shot watcher. We were doing it wrong before but TDC let it slide because it was when SpyreX was modding.

re: tubby being in our neighborhood. Yes, but elvis and I have town reads on each other. We don't have town reads on tubby. I guess this part is hard to see because you guys don't have access to our QT, but I would rather have tubby lynched and let the two of us decide whether each other are scum then go bang-bang-bang and kill all three of us, which would remove all the neighborhood's power. On the other hand lynching two of us would leave the power in the hands of 1 person without really illuminating that person's alignment. So I think a single lynch out of the three of us is safest.

If scum still has a kill, they can RB ecto and kill you, leaving us even worse off.

In the night you shoot someone like Socrates, then get tubby and CSL lynched, thus clearing up the mafia and leaving yourself a nice little 3 man endgame.

Because I'm still not convinced that ecto is a vig, and I don't think that anything he says will convince me. However, I am almost completely positive that he is not mafia, so there is no point in lynching him now as he is still beneficial to the town.

If you think he isn't vig, you must think he's SK. And if he's SK, he is extremely likely to be bulletproof like he said- so as long as there's only 1 mafia left he wins in endgame. If there's 2 mafia left he has to shoot one of them, but otherwise no, he's not beneficial.

I was under the impression that all information sources have been tapped to their fullest. Also, I am not totally convinced either of the mafia's lack of kills or ecto's pro-townness, and lynching multiple people in one day would remove the risk of either of those situations resulting in bad things for town.

It doesn't make any sense that 3 scum were on 1 counterwagon to a town player- especially considering how much me and tajo were fighting. Ask yourself which is more likely-
3 scum and 1 town on a 4 man wagon, with an all-town 5 man wagon on a town player
2 scum and 2 town on a 4 man wagon, with 1 scum and 4 town on a 5 man wagon on a town player.
Do you really think scum would sacrifice the chance to lynch Phate/Ecto that easily, and commit so many people to 1 weak counterwagon?

Now I'm worried we might have to take another lynch today to hit scum. Nico mafia + Ecto SK vs me and Elli town. Elli, we have to lynch one of the two if town wants to win this game. Or have one shoot the other.

I'm trying to work out a way to have Ecto vig Nico without risking anyone else inputting a kill action.
I think if we have me track ecto (results to elli) have ecto kill Nico, and have Elli watch Nico we get a safe kill. I'm operating under the assumption that the last mafiate is not a backup vig or vig (which seems reasonable) and therefore either has no kill or has no kill that is an individual ability. Since you can only use one group ability per night, no-one except ecto can kill.

Feh. I was sure I didn't have the town cred to swing one more mislynch so that was my only option. It was kind of insane dealing with Ecto and Elli. I'm glad I almost pulled it off. I was planning to die by lynch D3 and leave the game to nuwen/ort/plum but it didn't shake down that way.
I think the biggest factor for the scum was Neopi. He was a must-bus D1 but also our most important role. Horrible.

In terms of the town's play, killing DGB was big, and lynching elvis was big too. I might have swung a nico lynch with elvis alive, and I like to think I could have worked DGB into defending me too.
