Saving Nasubi: Game over, Nasubi is Dead Long Live Nasubi

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:21 am

Post by shaft.ed »

You tune into your favorite show, with baited breath. Your anticipation is greater than most viewers at home. While they may be excited to watch Nasubi tonight as he wins a set of radial tires, you’re just happy to see him alive.

Your interest in Nasubi is deeper than most because you are one of his biggest fans. While searching desperately for more information about Nasubi you entered into the bowels, nay the cockels or maybe even the subcockels of the internet and found a secret website, savingNasbui.com. It talked of an ongoing plot to assassinate Nasubi, and how it’s members must do anything in their power to defend the Sweepstakes Life icon. With your boring life, you couldn't think of anyhthing more exciting than stopping an assassination of a global reality TV celebrity so naturally you dove in.

It seems not much had been going on with your newfound message board for some time. Things were verging on absurd with members showing video of their training sessions, but then things started getting serious.

Logging in to the message board one morning you saw this scawled across the home page:

I'm on your message board, drinking your milkshake...OF NASUBI BLOOOD!!
MUahahaiuauauHAHuuah
^
diabolicle laughter
^

Some of the more internet savvy members of the board figured out that the account that posted it was registered to a current user, but they could not track which one. Your group, dedicated to saving Nasubi has been infiltrated. They know your plans to help save him, and are trying to stop you. Just last week Oman, Nasubi's biggest fan and a former member of your message board was found floating face down in a local hotel pool. It seems the killers are going to try wiping you out first, then they can move on to their real prize.

The upside is that you know the killers are a part of your small group. You've all agreed to a pact. Each day you will democratically choose a message board member to kill. You should eventually be able to save Nasubi through sacrifice of yourselves.

General Game Rules:

The Rules (borrowed from vollkan, JordanA24, Wizardcat & Stoofer with some alterations):
1: This is a game, have fun.
2: Please bold your votes. For example,
Vote: RandomPerson
. Votes that are not bolded will not be counted.
3: If you wish to change your vote, bold an unvote before casting your new vote. For example,
Unvote, Vote: ScummyPerson
. If you do not unvote in this format, your vote will not be counted.
4: Lynching will require a majority of the votes. Once a lynch is decided, the decision is final. Feel free to continue posting until the thread is locked, but unvoting before I check the thread will not prevent the player from being lynched.
5: You may
Vote: No Lynch
to decide to not lynch someone on a given day. No-lynching requires 50% or more of the votes, thus on days with an even number of players it will take one less vote to No Lynch than to lynch.
6: If you get lynched or killed, you are dead. A single “Bah” post with NO other content is allowed.
7: Any questions, concerns, desires for me to prod, whatever PM me for best results.
8: Never quote anything that I PM to you, unless express permission is granted. This will result in a modkill.
9: Treat this game as a commitment and be considerate of me and your fellow players.
10: No small or invisible text, editing of your posts, codes, etc.
11: Do not discuss this game outside the thread at any time, except if and when your role specifically allows you to do so.
12: You must confirm your role to me by PM.
13: If you do not post for 3 days without notifying me that you will be away, you will be prodded. Not posting within 48 hours of the prod or getting prodded more than 3 times may result in replacement.
14: Each day will have an automatic deadline of 2.5*(number of players) days limited to the range of 35 to 14 days. I may extend it in very special circumstances.
15: If a majority is not reached by deadline, the person with the highest number of votes
as long as it is more than one
will be lynched. In the case of a tie, the first person to reach that number of votes will be lynched. The person who would be lynched if deadline were to reach with no changes will be indicated in votecounts with
red font
.
16:
Blue
is my color. Don't use it.
17: I am usually not around over weekends. If something should come up over this time please be patient. I will alter deadlines in favor of extension should they be scheduled to fall on a weekend.
18:The Mod is not God. He/She may make mistakes. Please point out any mistakes and they will be corrected where possible. Sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed, and these will stand as final, to be commeserated over after the game.
19. This ruleset may be incomplete. If you spot an obvious loophole, don't be a jerk - PM me and point it out. If the Mod discovers an oversight, or feels a player is doing something that, while technically within the rules, is against the spirit of the game, the Mod may add to these rules and inform/warn the players affected as appropriate.
20. I will post any Quick Topic Threads associated with this game after its completion. Behave accordingly if you are concerned about the content of said threads.

Game Specific Rules/Information:

1. Nasubi is a player in this game, he is not an abstract concept.
2. At the begining of each day phase you may "watch a broadcast" that informs you what items, if any, Nasubi received during the night phase.

The footfalls of your upstairs neighbor pound heavily on the ceiling above. You wonder "could they be Nasubi, has he just won some fabulous prize?"

"It's time," a voice calls out in your mind. Time to watch the latest installment of Nasubi! You laugh at his antics as he plays with his seal and fills out more sweepstakes cards. But by the show's resolve you are saddened. Another rough day for Nasubi.

He won nothing last night. He eats his meek tin cup of rice from the obviously dwindling bag. His spirits are low.
Image

After the show you log into the savingnasubi message board for your usually scheduled meeting. But only 13 of you show up. It appears springlullaby is not reporting for duty today. You manage to activate her webcam to a horrifying site. A speckling of blood on the lens obscures your view, but you see springlullaby has been stabbed viciously. Her delivery uniform has gone from a blue-grey to a red-brown with all of the blood.

sprinlullaby-Delivery Man (modified tracker)-Nasubi Saver has been stabbed Night 0

It is now Day 1. With 13 alive it takes 7 votes to Lynch or No Lynch.

Deadline is exactly 33 days from this post.

As you all watch Nasubi peacefully fill out sweepstakes cards via the 24/7 live feed, you also get about the dirty business that starts today. By the end of this day you will likely have killed the first member of your group...if you have the stomach for it.

You all seem tired of millar13's shenanigans. He was also the idiot posting the ninja fat kid videos. As the final vote is cast you see millar's webcam flash on. Upon seeing himself he smiles for the camera. The smile doesn't last long. A high voltage flash jumps out from his computer. You see his body shaking and his hair catches fire. millar13 won't be making anymore ninja videos.

millar13 is lynched he was a Natto Distributor, and a

You start your day off as usual with the most recent episode of Nasubi. He begins his morning with high spirits awakening from his tent.
Image
But as the day drags on no packages arrive. He writes in his diary lamenting his lack of decent food. And scrapes a serving of rice from his near empty rice bag.

You log in for your meeting at savingNasubi.com and again one of your group is missing, this time it is the alpaca, populartajo. You turn on his webcam to see four furry legs twisting about in the air. tajo is suspended from a rope by his neck. You estimate from the Nasubi wallpaper, Nasubi plush doll and Nasubi dinner plates that he was a Nasubi fanboy.

populartajo, Nasubi fanboy was strangled Night 1

It is now Day 2. With 11 alive it takes 6 votes to lynch or No Lynch.

Deadline is precisely 25 days from this post.

Claus' webcam flips on. You're suprised to see that Santa isn't really a portly old man with a gray beard, but instead has nice shapely eyebrows. Eyebrows which are fluttering rapidly in anticipation of their possesor's demise.

As Claus scrambles away from his computer you see the charge leap from it. He is fried by the voltage, bubbling saliva finally creating a thick white beard as it should be.

From the crates of natto stacked up behind him you realize you have lynched another natto distributor.

Claus, Natto Distributor and Nasubi Saver has been lynched.

Morning breaks. You all anxiously tune in to the Nasubi broadcast hoping his fortunes improve. However, you are saddened to discover for yet another broadcast, Nasubi has received no packages. You watch him emty out his sack of rice, retreiving every grain. He finishes his meager cup anxiously. Nasubi has run out of food.

To follow up the bad news during the broadcast, there is yet another member of your team missing. Yesterday it was the alpaca, today it is the llama. "Perhaps the assassins are necrozoophiliacs," you murmer to yourself. You turn on Llamafluff's webcam with grim anticipation. And again see four furry legs suspended in the air and swinging slowly .

Llamafluff, Denpa Shonen Night Shift IT Guy (Role Cop) and Nasubi Saver has been strangled Night 2.

As the final vote is cast Tenchi's webcam flips on. But he's not even on the screen. From the audio it sounds as if he's in the shower. You here running water and someone singing Cibo Mattoout of tune. You here some shouting but you're not really sure if that's supposed to be there or not. But the lightning bolts flying out of of his computer make it pretty obvious that he's being shocked.

You look around his flat and see a lot of plush decor. He must be someone really big.

In fact
Tenchi, Denpa Shonen Producer, and Assassin has been lynched.

It's time to watch Nasubi again. With the events on your board yesterday you are both worried for his safety but excited that he may finally receive some food.

And your hope seems to have paid off. Nasubi received three packages in the night. The first was a cut of Kobe Beef. Nasubi cooked it breifly over his stovetop and savored every last bite.
Image

Shortly after finishing the steak there was another knock at the door. Nasubi opened the box with a puzzled look. It was rather cold even though it's the begining of summer. He opened it to find a bunch of pints of ice cream. With no freezer it seemed he must eat it straight away. Nasubi stacked up each container as he knocked off pint after pint.
Image

Finally, there was one more package. It felt much heavier than the others. Maybe this isn't food, Nasubi thought. But it was food of sorts. It was dogfood. He opened the bag and took a bite. "It's not too bad," he said. But he was so full he couldn't eat anymore. So he saved the bag for another day.

But with all good news there has to be bad right? After your Denpa Shonen episode concluded you log into the message board. As seems to be the norm, there is one member missing. Zwet doesn't seem to be logging in. Maybe he's just really excited? You flip on his webcam and that is clearly not the case. On the grainy video you see zwets feet suspended in the air, swinging slowly too and fro. Strangely enough you also see hasdgfas on a clump of sod in the background.

zwetschenwasser, Kobe Beef Distributor and Nasubi saver has been strangled.

It is now Day 4, with 7 alive it takes 4 to lynch.

Nasubi had a lazy day resting after eating all that food last night. While he was lounging you were quick to make a decision. Sajin was called out in short order. He took his punishment staring into his webcam as the voltage coursed through his body.

Man everyone really overslept last night. You barely make it up in time to catch today's episode of Nasubi. He starts of strong again winning a case of ice cream. He can't believe his luck, but still has no trouble eating the whole case before it melts. While filling out more entry cards he gets a knock at the door. It's weight seems familiar. Yes....more dogfood.

He doesn't eat any, but does a victory dance for his good fortune and to work off some of that sugar rush.
Image

You then log into the message board in high spirits hoping some of Nasubi's recent luck will spillover to you. And strangely enough it has. All remaining members of your group have survived the night. You do your own victory dance before the start of today's proceedings.

With 6 alive it's 4 to lynch or 3 to No Lynch.

Elvis' eggplant doesn't seem to add up to the town. She even emailed everyone her desktop at work to prove her career in eggplant
Image
but that was no use in convincing anyone.

With the casting of the final vote you see elvis_knits' webcam flip on. She looks to be at work in a large office full of cubicles. She's franticly clicking her mouse trying to close the chat window, but it's of no use. The bolt of electricity is sent and she is electrocuted. Her coworkers garther around her charred body sipping coffee and chit chatting about whether or not they can get the day off since their officemate has died.

It's time for Nasubi again! His fortunes have been so good recently you can't wait to see what kind of luck he will have today.

But

You tune in and Nasubi is not there. There is no frolicking naked man adorned only with his cartoon eggplant. Instead they have reruns of Sasukeairing where Nasubi should be. Whatever could this mean?!!

You frantically log into your message board hoping that the worst has not happened. The knot in your stomach grows bigger when you notice one of your ranks is missing. Relief, or something near it, sets in when you realize that camn is the missing player. Flipping on their webcam you see a massive amount of blood splattered all over the walls papered by Nasubi photographs. camn's body lies in a heap on the floor, fortunately you can't see her bashed in face.

camn-Nasubi fanboy and Nasubi saver has been beaten to death

The final vote is cast. Stephoscope has been fingered as the last remaining assassin. His webcam flips on and he is screaming "Ten percent you morons!!!@@" over and over at the top of his lungs. That leaves the two food distributors and Nasubi for the night.
DrippingGoofball-the Dogfood Distributor
tries in vain to provide Nasubi with the food he would need to survive this ordeal, while she is beaten to a pulp that night.

Nasubi wonders why the ice cream has stopped coming. He begins chipping away at his stores of dogfood, but they can only last for so long. After 4 days and nights
Searphim, aka Nasubi
,
dies of starvation.

So the basic set up was:

Nasubi was in fact NK immune as some players speculated, but he was not informed as such. He also started with enough rice to last through to N2 if needed.

Mafia knew who Nasubi was and also knew he was NK immune.

Town power roles were basically-

Nasubi-NK immune townie
IT Guy-Role Cop
& Delivery Guy-Every other day Tracker, Delivery Watcher

The food distributors were needed to keep Nasubi alive. This would only matter if scum could kill off all the distributors quickly (which was actually viable but they chose to go after LlamaFluff instead) or in end game since Nasubi was NK immune. It also gave the distributors a way to hunt for Nasubi.

The vanilla townies of the game were each told two players who were not Nasubi. I did this to prevent slow days due to people being fearful of lynching Nasubi. With this town, it was likely no needed.

Scum Roles were-

Producer-He was a Godfather which only mattered to the Role Cop. In addition the Producer would have become a double voter had one of his partners been lynched. He was not told of this effect.

Private Parts Censor-Elvis' power was to broadcast the Nasubi episodes. As evidenced on the breaking of the last day, after she died the town could not confirm what Nasubi received. This was meant to give the scum some help should they lose this player early and also to be a useful role claim.

Ice Cream Distributor-Behaved the same as other food distributors. I couldn't have role be indicitave of alignment could I?

Wait did I say game over? No I meant the game's just begining. Yeah it's still day 1, the last 40 pages...where just a dream :
blows minds
:

I promise I'll get full details up tommorow.

One thing that I REALLY didn't expect was the rampant role claiming that was going on particularly early in the game. I thought for sure the idea that outing Nasubi to the scum=loss would make people play a lot closer to their vests. I also thought the town would behave far more deliberately with their lynches since one mislynch=loss. But you guys were blood thirsty. That hurt you a lot in the first couple days, but was the chief factor in getting the Tenchi lynch through.

Pretty curious to see what people thought of the game mechanic. And sorry if the PM's were vague (had a couple complaints) but I really like being non-clear with role actions in certain game set ups.

On a side note, I felt terrible about killing off springlullaby before the game even got underway (she pre-ind like 3 months in advance  ). I don't think I'll have N0 kills again unless I can figure out a way to do it without removing a player from the game.

Yeah balance-wise I think it worked nicely, but it really sucked from a RL perspective. I think I may have come up with a way to do it, but it's not really fair to the scum. Basically you sign up one fewer player than roles and allow the scum to randomly remove a role from the game. Problem is town-sided roles (cops, docs, trackers etc.) still get to make an everso slightly informed decision.

I've noticed your preference for vague roles and or actions before...
Being non-clear with role actions is fine.

Being non-clear with win conditions is not so good, though.
 I thought the win con was pretty clear. Sorry about that.

FWIW I think your gambit was a decent play. As you rightly assessed you were a likely lynch and taking the NK over a food distributor would have been preferential.
