For furtive, I don't think a town player is not going to investigate people. The consensus around BlueSnakelet's guide was clearly that strong investigative roles should be using their abilities.

Also i would't fire extra kill instantly. I would use it as tool to get majority faster or kill PRs which need to die fast.
I can't really guarantee that mafia thinks same way but they most likely do.

Where is the flaw in my logic?

Uh let me think.

1. Enigma has result that Ranger can't remove players from game. Therefore if Enigma is town, Ranger at worst are 3p or we can make infinity guesses about "what if there's mafia which can only kill after 10 night". There's no flaw indeed your line correct.
2. Ranger plays not like third party. From first post of this game. I find myself agreeing with most of Ranger points and last time when i feel it is demon slayer where we both had same role and managed to make same night actions and think alike. Ranger thinks like me. Ranger town. I am not changing opinion on that like i did in that game.
3. Even assuming Ranger is somehow third party, what exactly you want to achieve? So we won't listen to Ranger who pushes Furtive (who you DO scumread)? So mafia assume them as not-Cop and WON'T shot here therefore solving problem?

The number of VTs matter because if there were around 50% of town being VTs, I'd be more likely to get a useful result.

If you don't get a VT result on someone that is still useful later on in the game.
