ever since I was a little kid, I've had to take loratadine (which is just the generic of claritin) nearly every single day or I get real itchy. I haven't identified a single specific thing that I'm allergic to, and this condition has never gone away. on the other hand, it's not like loratadine is expensive. this costs me in the tens of dollars per year to deal with, so it's not like there's any urgency to figure out what this antihistamine is protecting me from. on the other other hand, what if it stops working for me someday? it's might be good to have a plan for changes I need to make to my lifestyle before then. on the other other hand, it hasn't stopped working in 20 years. it would be pretty weird if it stopped now. I'm probably fine basically forever. still think I ought to maybe get one of those "poke you with every single common allergen and see which ones you have a reaction to" tests one day

What can I say?

when I'm recruited for my prowess as scum, I have to deliver a win for the player who recruited me. Nothing else matters.

back when I designed this, I definitely had in the back of my mind that the hydra recruit ability had the potential to either be a nothing ability or the most powerful thing in the game; I like that it turned out to be the latter.

btw, here's the info from the dead thread:

hello! if you have access to this thread, that means you've died. but that doesn't mean your influence on the game is over! once at least 6 players have died, I will begin running games of Lovers Mafia (2 mafia lovers versus 4 town) continuously in this thread. each time you win a game, you'll gain the ability to send one word to a living player during the following night. each player who wins at least one of these games as both town and mafia before the beginning of each night phase will also gain a one-shot night ability to grant a living player an additional vote for the next day. finally, the player who wins the largest number of these games and isn't part of the winning faction for the main game will be an additional winner at the end of the game.

all the standard rules of the main game thread apply here as well, with the one exception that you're not required to play to the win condition of the lovers mafia subgames as long as you're playing to your main game win condition. if for some reason you want to be temporarily or permanently excluded from participating in the game, please let me know. if you haven't posted here yet, I will assume that you do not wish to play in any lovers mafia games, and I will also do that if you simply stop posting in this thread.

What were the full roles of Prince and KT?

town strongman and town multitasking odd night fruit vendor even night vegetable vendor 1-shot meat vendor neighbor — both part of a trend of pseudo-townies with roles that do nothing.

btw, here were [REDACTED] and ???:

you have a [REDACTED] night action. each night, you can submit an action you would like to take. if I believe it's a fair action, I will let you use it. I may also slightly tweak the action if I believe it is close to being fair. if I decide the action is not fair and I decide not to tweak it, the action will fail.

you have a ??? action. each night, you can target another player. something may happen as a result.

the ??? does nothing at all. the mafia inventor was basically an identical copy of a role from the game Non-Reviewed Game, which had a randomized setup with roles designed by members of the normal review group (btw, I've got a sequel to that one with roles designed by the list mods coming at some point), and that game also had a role called ??? that had the same ability, but it had some extra things that happen after death. it was a deliberate red herring in case anyone figured out that the inventor was lifted from that game.

btw, the prisoner's dilemma mechanic for the two mafia factions is adapted from a marathon game I ran back in 2017 or 2018 or so. I directly said at the end of that game that I'd probably use that mechanic again at some point! I was hoping someone would figure that one out beforehand. alas.
