Mini 854 - Dice Mafia (Over)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Sep 22, 2009 8:27 am

Post by Empking »

In a dice case trouble is brewing

Rules

Stolen from Sensfan.

01] Votes must be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
[02] It would be appreciated if you unvote, if necessary, before casting a new vote. I do not require it, though.
[03] Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, their pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. Feel free to post and pm in twilight, though.
[04] You may vote: No Lynch. Majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
[05] Days will last 3 weeks long max. If I impose a day deadline, no one will be lynched if the deadline hits with no one reaching the required number of votes.
[07] Do not discuss this game outside the thread unless your role states it. No-one may post in the thread when I declare it night (In case I don't lock it).
[08] Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Stop typing. Not even a “Bah!” post. Just, just stop. Fingers off the keys. You're no longer breathing. Save it for after the game is over.
[09] No small or invisible text. Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts either.
[10] Don’t quote any PMs from me or other players. If you do, I will cast Summon Nature's Modkill V on you. Also, if you have anything sneaky or dicey such as screenshots, cryptography etc, please PM me and check.
[11] If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you. If you do not submit a choice to me, its a No Choice. If you have a power and don't want to use it PM me "none" "no action" or similar to keep the game fast.
[12] If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread or PM me. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
[13] Unlike Oman (and like Crub) I am fallible. If I make a mistake, let me know. It can be either by PM or in-thread. In particular, if I post a vote count that does not accurately reflect your vote, please correct me, or your (incorrect) vote may be counted as I placed it.
[14] There is no Rule 6
[15]Green texts are my mod texts. Please don't use them. I know what I write, and if you try to pass yourself off as me, you shall feel pain.
[16] Any Role PM that contradicts one of these rules overrides the general rule.
[17] Play to win this game. Do not use it to build a meta-game of yourself for other games, this game is an island. Also, all players must read their role PMs and understand their role before playing. If you have a question PM me.
[18] Remember, it’s a game and it’s supposed to be fun. Be nice to your fellow players and your mod.

In the dice set the dice started to toss and turn until finally waking up and staying on the numbers they landed on. The group of you looked around and then noticed that some of you, well you looked different.

Why are people splitting their votes? If you could split your day one vote in a regular game to give 1/4 of a vote to four different people, would you?

And lol @ le chat.

I split votes to find out what Empking's preference was.

Other than that, it seems like the only reason to spread votes around is to show varying shades of suspicion (3 votes for one person and one vote as a more solid version of a FoS on someone else, or 2 votes on one wagon and 2 on another for the ultimate in fence sitting).

I split votes out of 2 reasons:
1) because I wanted to see if I could and if I could use the form "Vote: Player (n)"; (so far seems the Mod does not complain)
2) because I wanted to see what the other players wanted to do. There are 4 of us with 4 votes, which implies it takes theoretically 1/2 of the players to lynch... I do not know how this game will be, but I don't like quicklynch on day 1.

The way the dice landed today is actually pretty interesting. On a usual day with 6 players, it takes 4 to lynch. With the current dice rolls, it is still the case that any 4 players can lynch, but 3 players can also lynch
if
none of those 3 are Le Chat or Nacho. I'm not sure yet how that affects anything, but it's interesting.

Also interesting is thinking about how the endgame differs. There's probably only one scum, and we won't have any idea when we're in LyLo. In fact, scum won't know we're in LyLo either, since no one knows what the vote distributions will be on the following day. Actually, the endgame seems like it could be pretty interesting. Just to share an observation, by the way the numbers work, there can never be a king, i.e., no player can control more than half the votes. There can be an unlynchable player if, when down to 3 players, that player has two votes and the other players have one vote each. But in that case, you'd just go to night and wake up with a new distribution, and that player would get lynched eventually.

And to clarify my stance, I think vote-splitting is probably okay in this opening stage where I can see being nervous about sticking 4 votes on someone (1/3 of a lynch is a good deal more than the 1/4 lynch we'd normally have), but I think that once you have an honest suspicion, it probably makes sense to put your votes where your mouth is.

Now we wait for the last votes, than it will all be up to the behaviour of the strong voters... Actually, I agree with matchcam's analysis, but I have no idea how to scumhunt in this situatuion.

Looks like scumhunting's gotta be done the old-fashioned way.

Emp
, I know we're not blitzing through the day here, but copious vote counts would be appreciated. I think Rosso's currently leading at 4.

I can't tell if I'm excited or dismayed that this game could plausibly come down to a dice roll (e.g., 1 scum vs. 1 town, just who gets more votes). Nah, I'm pretty sure I'm excited. :)

mathcam, is there something that I missed that indicates this is a nightless game (or that scum doesn't have a NK)?

Heh, that was one of the main reasons I signed up for this game. I love nightless games. :)

Interesting that exactly one person got no votes.
