Using my 'knowledge' that I have gained whilst teaching History to a bunch of disinterested 11-16 year olds, this game will include all of the historical figures that they have to learn!

Game Rules:

Rule 0: Don't be a dick.

- If you are being a dick, you run the risk of force-replacement or modkill. You may or may not be warned.

General:

- Please adhere to the site rules.
- Do not discuss this game of mafia outside of this thread unless your role PM allows you to do so.
- Day phases will last 2 weeks maximum.
- Night Phases will last 48 hours maximum.
- During night phase, no talking may be done in the thread.
- Do not quote PM's from the mod at all (real or fabricated). Paraphrasing is acceptable.
- If you have any questions about your role, or the game, feel free to PM the mod.
- "Bah" posts are not allowed.
- If you break any of these rules, you will probably be modkilled.

Voting/Player Actions:

- All votes must be in bold format: vote: Nexus for example.
- Try to unvote before voting. Unvotes must also be in bold.
- Any and all votes will be counted, if you wish to waste a day phase voting for someone not in the game,that's fine by me.
- You may vote No Lynch.
- Voting tricks are not acceptable. If you misspell someone's name intentionally, but I get the gist of it, the vote will count.
- A lynch will occur once a majority decision is reached. If no majority is reached by deadline, then no lynch shall occur.
- Following a lynch, it is twilight. You may continue to post until I lock the thread and declare it night.
- If you have a Night Action, you may submit it from Night 1 and each subsequent Night. No other time.

Activity:

- You are expected to post at least once every 48 hours. If you haven't posted for 48 hours, I shall prod you. If you do not respond to the prod within 48 hours (either in thread if it's Day, or via PM during the Night) then I will replace you.
- Similarly, if you require more than three prods, I will force-replace you.

"Right, class, today we're going to do something new," Mr Bent smiled as he addressed the group of adoring Year 7s.

"Is it something fun?" Billy shrieked.

"Don't shout out. Besides, History is always fun."

There was a chuckle from the corner of the room. "Be quiet! Anyway, listen to me. We're going to have a balloon debate. You're all going to take on the role of a historical figure, and you will decide as a group who to save from the balloon, and who to throw over the side. And yes, it is a massive balloon. And no, you can't just save your friends. I'll give you your role, and then I will tell you some stuff about them, then you get to make your decision."

"Do we have to write anything down?" Alex asked, smirking.

"Nope, not unless you want to."

The cheer that rang around the class made the teacher smile. There is nothing like a good, healthy debate to brighten up the morning.

"So, a balloon debate is very straightforward, guys. I'm going to tell you who you are - for arguments sake let's say that Jack is Adolf Hitler."

"...what the f...?"

"Er. JOKE. Also watch your language. Anyway, I would then give you all a load of information about Hitler, and you'd decide if he deserves to survive or not."

"Well, obviously not," Sophie called out, indignantly.

"Well, you never know! I might find someone worse."

"Someone worse than Hitler?" Sophie retorted.

"Yeah, your mum," David yelled across the room.

This sends the Year Sevens into fits of giggles. The teacher raises his hands to try and get them to calm down, but can't help and smirk himself. After a few moments, the gale of laughter subsides, and the class is ready to continue. "Rasputin was a holy man who was close to the Tsar and Tsarina in Russia."

"If he's a holy man, doesn't that mean he's good?!" Tara asked.

"Excellent observation, Tara, well done. Yes, him being a holy man could indicate that he was good, but that's the problem with History - people who often appear to be good, are sometimes not who they seem. Rasputin was famous for having cured the Tsar's son of a blood disorder. Well, at least helped him manage it. That's fine - it did, however, mean that the Tsar and Tsarina started hanging off his every word, and started following and listening to him. Many people didn't like this, particularly because he was a borderline alcoholic, and a know womanizer."

"Well, you could argue that. Guys, this is what I'm trying to teach you! In History there are no right or wrong answers. Rasputin was hated and feared in his own time, so much so that people kept trying to kill him."

"But he was genuinely trying to help the Tsar's son - he got better, but we don't know if this was due to medical reasons, or whether it was hypnotism, or something else. But he did definitely help."

There was silence as the class digested his words. "Well, is Rasputin still alive?" Tommy piped up.

"Grigori had upset a lot of people during his life, and people were so concerned about his relationship with the Tsar and Tsarina, they wanted rid of him. So, in December 1916, a plan was put into action..."

"Wasn't the First World War also going on in 1916?" Ulrika piped up.

"Yes. Russia were embroiled in the Great War. The Tsar had taken charge of the army, so the Tsarina had been left in charge of running Russia. This also upset people, particularly given Rasputin's close relationship with the German Tsarina."

"GERMAN!?" Two different people perked up.

"Yup. German."

"Anyway, a man named Yusupov had decided he wanted to take matters into his own hands. He invited Rasputin into his house, and fed him poisoned food.

This didn't kill him, however. Yusupov then picked up a revolver and shot Rasputin in the stomach."

The class were silent, rapt in attention.

"Rasputin fell to the bearskin rug. His murderer, thinking the deed was done, left the room to clean themselves up. Rasputin opened his eyes, and staggered out of the room."

A gasp rang around the class. The teacher smiled.

"As he was staggering around, he made his way outside. He was discovered by Purishkevich, who shot him several times - missing three shots but connecting with a fourth. Rasputin died, face down, in the snow."

"So. Onto another famous, British figure. Actually, this links in with William the Conqueror, if I'm honest. At the bottom of the feudal system, which, as we know, he introduced, were the peasants. Or the serfs. The poorest of the poor. They had to do as they were told, and had very little freedom - they even had to ask permission before they could marry! This continued for a long, long time, until in 1381, they decided that enough was enough. Carrie, this is your character, so pay attention."

"Get stuffed, sir," the girl retorted.

"First warning. Now, 1381 is a crucial year, as King Richard II introduced the Poll Tax, thus raising the amount of money the peasants had to pay just for their existence."

"Seems pretty crappy," Carrie muttered.

"Second warning. Shut up and listen. The peasants revolted after the increase in Poll Tax. They marched from all parts of England to London, and were led by a man named Wat Tyler. Tyler was just an ordinary man, who was spurred into action when a tax collector sexually assaulted his daughter."

"So, I'm playing a bloke?"

"Yes. Final warning - don't interrupt me unless you have anything productive to say. Wat Tyler was a charismatic man, who inspired people to follow him. Richard II was worried about his influence, and so agreed to meet him to discuss terms of agreement to try and end the revolt. The two men met, and, whilst reports are unclear, Tyler apparently said something offensive to the King. This led to the King's men cutting him down, effectively ending the revolt."

"Brilliant."

"So, to put it simply - Wat Tyler, hero to many, was murdered by the King's advisors. That's it. He didn't achieve anything."

"But he wasn't bad, to be fair..."

"No, he wasn't."

"Actually, sir, I've decided...I don't give a toss about your stupid game."

The class gasped as the girl got up, and walked out.

The boy nodded. "What kind of an American?"

"Oh, definitely a good guy. Some would say...an untouchable. What do you know of the Prohibition?"

"Ah! The Simpsons covered this once! It was where America banned all alcohol!" Pavel responded, eagerly. "It also caused loads of problems, and was eventually repealed by FDR due to these problems."

"Yup. Can you name one of the problems?"

"Gangsters! They took control of the illegal, underground liquor trade."

"Most famous gangster?"

"Al Capone!"

"Brilliant. Take a merit. So, you get to be the guy who nailed Al Capone for his crimes - Eliot Ness. He fought against corruption..." There was a knock at the classroom door. "What?"

"Oh, sorry sir. There's someone here to see you," a small child said, timidly.

The teacher went out of the room to see what the problem was. He returned, with a grave look on his face.

"Pavel - you need to go to Student Reception now. Your mum is here - your dad's been rushed into hospital."

Pavel's face went ashen and he scurried out of the room.

Guy Fawkes is probably the best known, and most celebrated, terrorist in English history. He attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament, to kill the Protestant King James I. He failed, of course, because he was caught with a fuse in his pocket by the King's guards underneath Parliament. Initially giving the fake name of John Johnson, Fawkes soon capitulated under torture, giving up his real name, and details of all his co-conspirators. He was hung, drawn and quartered soon after. There are rumours that it was all a government plot to discredit the Catholics, but who knows for sure?

As Queen, she gained the unfortunate nickname of 'Bloody Mary' due to the amount of Protestants that she had burnt. Oh, she also married Philip of Spain. She wasn't meant to be Queen, but she assembled a force of soldiers who deposed, and ultimately beheaded Lady Jane Grey, seizing power for herself. She had a relatively short reign, however, and when she died she was replaced by her more successful sister - Queen Elizabeth I.

Emmeline Pankhurst was the leader of the Suffragettes, and was famous for her no-nonsense approach to protesting for votes for women. She was formerly a Suffragist, however was sick of their non-violent tactics, and so attempted to get the vote by violent protest, such as vandalism, arson and hunger strikes. When the First World War broke out, Pankhurst called a halt to the militant tactics, and started getting men to join the army. She was one of the people who helped give white feathers to men who refused to fight, and attempted to coerce and shame them into joining up. In 1918, the Representation of the People Act gave all women over the age of 30 the vote.

Eliot Ness is perhaps the most famous Prohibition Enforcement Officer there ever was. The founder of the 'Untouchables', Ness fought against the corruption that was rife during Prohibition-era America. His biggest scalp was that of one Alphonse Capone, who, alongside the work of the IRS, Ness helped to put into prison for tax evasion. Al Capone's associates assassinated one of Ness' friend, and also attempted to bribe Ness. He wasn't able to do so (hence: Untouchables). Capone was imprisoned for 11 years, and Ness' career moved on. Without Eliot Ness, Al Capone would have probably continued his reign of terror.

Harold Godwinson was the last Anglo-Saxon King of England. He is also famous as 'that bloke with the arrow in his eye' from the Bayeux Tapestry. Godwinson was one of three candidates for the English throne in 1066, after the death of Edward the Confessor. His opponents were William, Duke of Normandy, and Harald Hardrada, the Viking. Soon after Edward's death, Godwinson was crowned King of England, upsetting both William and Hardrada. This meant that both foreign armies invaded England - Hardrada at Stamford Bridge, and William at Hastings. Godwinson marched his army up to Stamford Bridge, defeating Hardrada in battle. However, Godwinson then had to force-march his army back down to Hastings, to face the Norman army of William. After nine hours of fighting, Harold was killed and his army routed.

Wat Tyler was the leader of the 1381 Peasant's Revolt in England. Fed up of the way King Richard II was treating people, particularly following the introduction of the Poll Tax, the peasants of England began to march upon London. The peasants burnt and beat their way through England until they reached the capital. Wat Tyler joined the revolt after a tax collector sexual assaulted his daughter. When the revolt reached London, Tyler agreed to meet with the King and his advisers. Reports are unreliable, but it is rumoured that Wat Tyler was rude towards the King, leading to one of the King's advisers drawing his sword, and cutting Wat Tyler down, thus ending the revolt.

Charles II's dad, Charles I, was one of the worst monarchs in British History, what with losing the civil war, and then losing his head. Charles II, however, was the glorious return to the monarchy after the dull time of Oliver Cromwell. Charles II was known as a party guy, the 'King of Bling.' During his reign, he dealt with both the Great Plague, and then the Great Fire of London in subsequent years, as well as fighting various wars, and flitting between Catholicism and Protestantism. Still, he gave his name to a cool spaniel!

She lost citizenship in 1941, thanks to Hitler's anti-Jewish policies, and spent the last years of her life in hiding in Nazi-occupied Netherlands. Anne and her family lived for over two years behind a bookshelf, until they were betrayed and captured by the Nazis. Anne Frank spent the last years of her life in the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp, where she died two months before the liberation of the camp in 1945.

Mod notes:

I had to modkill the pignash and Bellaphant slots because of something posted by KTthecreeper in another game, which confirmed that the pignash slot was scum, and the Bellaphant slot was town. Sucked major ass to do that, and I'm super angry about it.

The follower was the main power - the gender cop was essentially a flavour cop that was there in case someone was dumb enough to lie. Not entirely sure if the Day Talk meant Mafia were stronger, but nevermind.

I say this every game - flavour breaking my games does not work. Ever.

Hope you enjoyed the game, though. I don't think I'm going to run anymore games now, so it's nice to end on a fairly decent one.
