After much thought, I think they are town and I was just utterly wrong with my early read on them.

I'll be straight with you, my lack of fucks has nothing to do with alignment this game. (This is Syr.) As I said before, and I'm not repeating after this, tragedy struck my family late last week. I'm still dealing with it. My box of fucks is not only empty, it is legitimately cinders and ash. I owe it to town to at least get my opinion out there before all of you kill us though.

That said, it's Gamma. His read on BM is complete trash. Active and earnest? He scumread the fuck out of BM for being a complete troll in Xeno, got into a fight with him, etc. I have no idea what scumgame he played with BM, but active and earnest essentially describes my BM!scum experience in Fferyllt's newbie game (here, for those that care). From my experience with him, BM is acting like neither his towngame from Xenoblade nor his scumgame from the Newbie and I think Gamma's townread of him isn't legit.

The thing that made me zero in on him though? His interaction with you, Noraa. Starting at 713 and ending with 729, he followed you around like a lost puppy. Actually, more like a parrot, since he unvoted as soon as you went "well i'm not actually scumreading Firebringer tho" in 728. His posting this game is completely soulless and directionless, which heavily contradicts both games I've seen him play town (Xenoblade, and Smoke Filled Antechamber).

Also of note; he's active lurking. He posts in little spurts every few hours or so, off and on, but he certainly was johnny on the spot when I came in and voted him. In fact, that vote was the first time I got any hint of emotion from him this entire game.

Pedit: Titus, I don't want to fight with you. I really don't. But you have literally turned an initial gut scumread on Nacho into a fullblown confbiased push on our slot. You misrepped Nacho's appeal to mastina as a general gamewide AtE. You didn't like it when I refused answer a question I didn't (and still don't) see any kind of meaning in answering. The reason why I've been playing in hydras since I've returned to the site is because the nature of my work means that even though we're in slow season right now and I hypothetically should have time to play mafia, certain things pop up and I fall off the face of the planet for a set amount of time. My style as a whole involves a lot of thinking and reading before posting (usually) which means end result is my beautiful self that you're used to. I think that your scumread on my entrance makes sense because that Nacho was me posting before hanging out and drinking and then a bunch of sloppy drunk posting - I think that the chances you take such an aggressive tack if scum against me are low and the way that you've gone back and forth on extremes in determining my alignment also reads very very genuine.

And I've touched a bit on alignment preferences (and I appreciate the compliments!!), and while there used to be a time where I posted less as scum than town (because I was too focused on planning shit and didn't get the improv piece of playing scum), those times are long gone. Offsite where games have more of a tempo of New Mafiascum I put up some almost noraa-esque postcounts as scum (don't think I made it to Death Curse).

I highly doubt BM is scum here.

So far seeing very firm BM townreads from Fire and Titus and don't really understand them.

The sober translation of my BM scumread so far is that the combination of an extremely dispassionate Battle Mage doesn't make sense especially with how confident he is wrapped up in it. I talked about the Xenoblade comparison and I get that he's trying a different playstyle, but typically some of the passion and playfulness carries over since our playstyles are so deeply intertwined with our personalities. I'd feel better about it if he was putting suspicions together with things like "logic" and "reasons" but I don't really get a sense of that so far; it's just hard to find where him pushing to get reactions ends and where him believing what he's pushing begins which is never a good sign.

Got a few issues with this.
1) This seems very obviously like a joke? For one, the "nobody likes me" is overly dramatic and the attention he's getting is Bell going "man wouldn't it be funny if this is a meta tell!".
2) Saying that it's scum-indicative AtE to avoid scrutiny is equally illogical and ridiculous. If it's premature as town, it's premature is town because it's too early or too little pressure to justify being so overwhelmed to be pushed to AtE. If that's the case, why wouldn't it be premature as scum as well? Why would Flea be worried about scrutiny on post fucking 120?
3) Smallest of issues, but touches on what bothered drunk-me so much. He puts a bit of effort in trying to dress up this garbage take - there's no good substance here, but he sure as shit did his best to pretend that something was there.

1. I think you're a good player as either alignment. Have you rolled scum yet since you got back?
2. DGB scum once accurately stated I was needy for town reads as town. It was true. I like being town read I try to play like town when I'm town etc. It's a playstyle thing. But it's also a positioning check/occassional trap for players to hand me a TR too easily or fight hard against a Town player being correctly recognized as town by other town. It sort of generates information that can be useful later.

4. It's a perfectly constructed, believable, explanation that is in line with a town POV. Recognizing their own proclivities/bad posting habits and/or unproductive behaviors and then writing it out clearly and plainly when explaining themselves is very townie imo.
I even have a little meta experience with fed up BM and this is him directly recognizing some of his problem behaviors and going against them to the favor of a town win con.

It's just a very neat emotional post. It's almost tidy in its perfection.

1. Can't really answer that. Ongoings, etc. I haven't gotten scum in any of my completed games and I'm not scum here, fwiw. I think it's pretty safe to say my scumgame sucks, though. Before my hiatus in 2018ish, I got handed like 5 consecutive scumgames and got absolutely beaten to shit with it. I have a complex about it now.
4. I strongly encourage you to read that newbie I linked earlier. Can link again if you can't find it. Very short. If you want to make it even shorter, head straight to Day 3 and read the back and forth between myself and Battle Mage. Battle Mage comes from a generation of players that is absolutely capable of making that kind of post because they were much more adept in manipulating emotions and using the "town typically do this" archetype against you. (I'm looking at you, Pooky.) I'm not saying Battle Mage is scum here, but I don't think he's town for that post.

@Syr, Don't sell yourself short. You and Nacho lead by example, sometimes you have to get your second or third best because it is best for town. Sometimes that means doing things you don't understand.

@Gamma, How would you feel about being conftown? Would that be good or bad?

Mechanically it doesn't mean much to me or the gamestate one way or the other so use it on someone who's low effort or is harder to read. I'm not near as hard to read as Nacho and I'm confident that you/Bell/others will figure it out fairly quickly if you haven't already. And from a personal standpoint, I'd rather not have it because I'm really fucking tired of being dead after Day 1. With the exception of FGO I've been dead by day 2 in every game I've played since I got back. Being conftown would do a boatload of nothing other than paint a target on my back. And my back hurts.

Bell has been in most of my games since I've been back, approximately 3. In all of those games, Bell was an easy early townread for most people. In this game, one of his first posts is him talking about how he doesn't really get town until a couple scumflips occur, which flies in the face of my experience with him.

This seems TMI-ish maybe? Why would this even be a consideration? It's creating an elimination pool and forcing a 1vs1 between two fighters.

If I create a game with a central mechanic it makes sense for me to include roles that can interact with that mechanic. Those were a couple things that I thought might be possible.

I'd like to see Flea's full readslist fleshed out a bit as well, or, at the very least, some 1 on 1 time climbing into Flea's head. Syryana made a criticism that he thought that fae really hadn't done a whole lot of pushing outside of the BM bout and he's not really that wrong. I'm more concerned that I'm really having trouble understanding fae's progressions - I don't understand how Flea went from me-Guillo to the four person pool that had nothing to do with me-Guillo then back to me-Guillo again I think?

Here's the page I got that from. They use a lot of linguistic crutches which I believe is giving me this interpretation - the anaphoria in the first post, exaggeration/inflating language all over, the unnecessarily lengthy description in the last post. It just feels like someone not comfortable with their content adding support to it to make it come off better.

Well, at least I've gotten some sort of joy from reading this game. I agree that you're probably getting this interpretation based on our posting style and the fact that you ALMOST connected the dots then veered in the opposite direction is kinda funny for some reason.

Not that this makes any difference at this point whatever, but to all of you whining about how we "scumsided":

1. We have to use the ability. There is no point in the game at which this is not "scumsided", short of a massclaim at LyLo where everyone turns out to be VTs.
2. Our enhancer and blocker are global. However for the enhancer, we don't know who gets modified just that it's a certain set of people with extra abilities. We do not know the alignments or identities of this subset of people. Arguing that either of these abilities is sided to one or the other with the knowledge you have is a non sequitur.
3. Both Nacho and I are NK bait. I have not lived past Day 1 outside of a newbie in years. Nacho's record for getting shot early is arguably worse. We play our normal game, we lose.
4. Don't shit on us for playing to our wincon. God knows most of you aren't playing to yours.

Superbowl coming out of the woodwork to hunt for third parties is most definitely +scum. The most passionate argument he's presented is that we're scumsiding and as a result we need to die immediately, but the complete lack of any scumhunting that looks like that outside of his push on third party doesn't look great.

Like, sorry, Oil, if you're 3rd party, I would have tried to help you win with it if it didn't hurt us, but I don't think the paranoia of you pulling a scum gambit will ever go away here.

The idea that we were scum with a universal roleblock is fucking insane. Makes a hell of a lot more sense that a power so potently anti-town is balanced by giving it to a 3P instead (that has to use it to survive), and is also balanced by giving us a universal power to help town as well.

I know they don't belong our faction but i feel betrayed and well, there is also something i've always believed and is that anyone that is mot town, is scum.

If you are one of the ones that believe that 3P = scum, why worry about whether we've scumsided or not? There's no way for 3P to townside, according to you - just means that we're scum.
