I don't think it's too unreasonable to put benhalkum in the jester role. I didn't think it an overly obvious gambit (if that's what it is). If anything, it probably isn't a bad move, only that it was too early. If we were 8-9 pages in, it would be different, I think.
Combine that with his earlier vote on nightfall and it is seeming much more plausible.
The other option is that he's actually scum trying to play up the jester role subtly to essentially rule out a lynch.-

I think it's even more than that. I think that it is entirely a scummy play. It's totally misleading. If you have a big, secret, master plan... if you announce that you have it (despite not explicating it), it is no longer a SECRET. Instead it becomes deceptive. It is purposely creating an angle where if we find his actions scummy later, he can slough it off as his "master plan" not coming through properly.somestrangeflea wrote:The thing about Mafia, is that if you're going to tell us that you have some big secret master plan that you aren't going to tell us, one of two things has to happen:- It better be an incredibly good plan which gives results quickly.
- You're going to have to get used to a large number of people doubting your motives as a Townie
Unfortunately, in this style game, I'm not sure if he's actually scum or a jester trying to pump up the scum angle. It's pretty subtle, but maybe he's that smart.-

Unvote
My vote on Schis was a worthless random vote.
I'm curious about the BH bit, as well. I don't feel comfortable with lynching him, though. The more I read this, the more I think it's reeks of a jester gambit. No one else has come off scummy, or at least no one in nearly the same ballpark as BH has.
You could make an argument for JimmyR being scummy, but that seems more in his not believing BH is playing a jester gambit. Of course, if this is true and BH is scum and not the jester, Jex looks a bit suspicious with his "metagaming" defense of BH in 75.
Second, part of me really doesn't like Jimmy's reaction/analysis of BH.
Further,Jimmy R wrote: I'm personally holding to the fact that it's still to early for anyone to be playing the Jester. They'd surely want to fly under the radar as long as possible.
True, it's hugely anti-town and a good townie certainly doesn't say things like it, but I don't think it's worth the test. It could VERY easily be a jester gambit (it's working for you). The part that I don't like about this is that it is a huge gamble for anyone OTHER than the jester to come out so convincingly, like Jimmy has. I think that this could be the very subtle beginnings of a jester gambit by Jimmy.Jimmy R wrote:

I think we're really going to struggle to lynch scum in this game. Every day it's going to be a worry whether or not we're going after the Jester.
I don't think Benhalkum is the Jester and his post above is probably the most anti-town I've seen this game. A good townie doesn't say things like that, so fine, lets test it.
So, I have two people in my "watch for jester" pool.-

I disagree, Pooky. It's an interesting strategy, but totally WIFOM. If the jester is sitting back being patient to avoid a night-lynch, then someone is about to be lynched, the jester could then stand up and say, "I'm mafia. He's not in my group. Don't lynch him." Then we run "the scum" up and lose.
Or suppose an actual scum stands up and says, "I'm mafia. He's not in my group. Don't lynch him." Then the jester says, "That's not true. *I'm* mafia. LAL."
I'm certainly not willing to lynch someone just because they claim to be scum.-

Vote: Pooky
Whoa! A tad opportunistic there? We don't hear anything from you in a week (ever since your "ULTIMATE GUIDE FOR MAFIA" post) and you jump in with a wholly unsubstantiated vote?
First you steer us with "suggestions", then you throw in a bandwagon vote?
Wouldn't it instead have been easier for you to stand up and say that you were scum, like your ultimate guide commands?
I mean... throwing a bandwagon vote out there with no other explanation than "contribute? what would you like me to contribute?"... That's ridiculous.-

d3sisted: Are you honestly voting for him based on JDodge's vote (his 2nd post this WHOLE game, I believe) and Pooky's vote? Neither of whom have done a thing to stimulate conversation this whole game?
Man... this whole thing is wrong. It reeks of scum-wagoning.
True, ryan was a little defensive. But I don't see that as any worse than what the three of you just did!-

I had questioned d3 a couple of pages ago and Num sums it all up very well.
My concern is that d3 is the jester, but as it has been said earlier, we're going to have to go with someone eventually. At the very least, his play has been shaky and it certainly has been questionable.

I'm not fond of claiming without actually having been asked. It's too pre-emptive.
And to claim not liking a wagon and only pointing out one person who has actually VOTED for you doesn't compute. How is that a wagon? Just because the others have accused you of being suspicious, is that really a wagon? I'd wager it is more of an investigation.-

Which 4 people? There are only four people voting you. For you to say this, at least two people would have to be voting for you before the people "flew" to it for it to constitute a wagon.d3sisted wrote:Ok, I'm going to need some time to respond to that.
But before I do, I'd just like to say: Wow. 4 of you flew onto the fucking bandwagon and none of you are even flinching about it? Am I the only one here who's doing some actual scumhunting?
But that seems rather off the current point.
Right now, you're at L-2.I'm tempted to ask for a claim.
It doesn't look like he specifically asked for one. Take a look at my post again. I said, "I'm not fond of claiming withoutactuallyhaving been asked."-

I'm wondering about Pooky.
It's been a week and a half since he decided to poke his head in here and almost 100 posts.
As he has been a HUGE lurker (he's been active in many other areas on the site), and considering his "jester-style guide for scum" post, I'm inclined to believe that he is the jester. He threw out the ultimate pre-emptive "I'm townie" claim and then vanished like the proverbial fart in the wind.-

As for Jimmy: Friday. It is now Tuesday.
Yeah... stateside it was a long weekend, and I have a feeling that Monday was a bank holiday in UK, as well. I'm not worried about him not being here over a long weekend in a game where he has been otherwise somewhat active.-
