i think i have explained my read here, like, a lot of times by this point, but two main things, again.

anyway:
on night one, i targeted shelly, and my check passed. i figured targeting (1) a scumread and (2) claimed PR was probably the best chance of getting a result that might not be completely useless (idk, if my check passed, and someone then claimed to be an alien on shelly on n1, i’d know they’re lying. still very situational, but eh.)

on day two, my first thought to shelly getting blocked was “lol yeah right”, however then i figured that the odds of that being true might be more likely than i first thought, because my role implies some sorta blocker in the game, which is what eventually made me give up on her push mid day two for the time being. (and also the knowledge that i was probably gonna hang in lylo if i pushed shelly through on day two and she flipped town gunsmith and that was not a gamble i was yet ready to do so)

on night two, after iv flipped red, i had a thought that if shelly is town, there might not be a mafia roleblocker at all, there might be a mafia rolestopper, since shelly did claim no result on a player who flipped scum (the logical mafia rolestop target).

my thinking was that if i target the same player as shelly, and if we both get “no result” (and then nobody claims something like a jailkeeper on me on n2) that that is probably +++town for that player, since it would mean they’re either rolestopped/alienated or ascetic/commuter. if there was *then* no public claim of blocking shelly on night 1, that would mean that either (1) the player we targeted on n2 is some sorta ascetic mafia rolestopper (which is unlikely) or (2) that player is town ascetic/rolestopped by scum, therefore much more likely to be town.

i figured it's all a probably ~somewhat~ unlikely course of events, but why not try, so i reskimmed d2 twilight, to try to figure out who gunsmith!shelly would target, found this post:

tl;dr is (1) if i was gonna claim a PR and survive, i was gonna need to claim a weak one (though this arguably became untrue considering the only townies dead by day 3 were VTs, but obviously that's not what i was planning for in the first place) (2) it was the only thing that i crumbed (3) with the alleged roleblocker running around and the current site meta of mods often putting in useless roles in the game, i figured it would be confusing *enough*. like the claim didn't have to be good. it just had to be good *enough*.
