C9++ is an open set-up with multiple variations generated randomly:
Spoiler: The nitty-gritty of the set-up
So in other words, depending on the RNG's mad whims, the following roles are possible (with Mafia/SK firepower affected by the town's roles):
Town:Sane cope of unknown sanity, insane cop of unknown sanity, unknowing miller, doctor, back-up doctor, vigilante, one-shot vigilante, innocent child, mason, roleblocker, back-up roleblocker
Mafia:Goon, godfather, roleblocker, spy
Serial Killer(50% chance of appearing in the game):Doctor/roleblock/kill/cop/spy inspection immune and/or one-shot roleblocker
Town roles will be revealed on death (other than cop sanity and millerhood), but not Mafia or SK abilities.
Here is the sample vanilla townie PM:
All role PMs follow the same modular structure. At any point, you may PM me to ask what a potential role PM would look like for any of the following roles: cop, doctor, back-up doctor, vigilante, one-shot vigilante, innocent child, mason, roleblocker, back-up roleblocker.Mina wrote:Welcome to Open 264: Attack of the RNG (C9++). The thread is here.
Role:Vanilla Townie
Alignment:(duh)Town
Win Condition:You escape from the RNG simulation when all threats to the town are eliminated and there is at least one town-aligned player alive.
Powers:
Vote:You may vote during the day for a lynch.
Remember that this is anight startgame. All roles may choose an action on N0, or withhold. If I receive no PM from a player before the night is over, I will treat this as no action.Last edited by Mina on Thu Nov 18, 2010 10:45 am, edited 3 times in total.-

Eight players have confirmed, and Night Zero has begun.
Night will end in anywhere from forty-eight hours (if I receive all PMs on time) to seventy-two hours. The final deadline for N0 is Sunday, November 21st, at4:30 PM EST6:30 PM EST. If you do not send an action in before then, you will default to no action.
(I'll have a more formal rules post up bytomorrowthe end of N0 .)Last edited by Mina on Sat Nov 20, 2010 8:09 pm, edited 1 time in total.-

Due to a last-minute change of plans, I won't get home until later this evening. The scene and rules list are saved on my home computer, but I don't want to make you guys wait any longer, so I'll just end the night from my phone.
Just the basics until then: vote withVote: Minaor VOTE: Mina (unvotes not necessary), majority required to lynch and 50% to no-lynch, two-week deadlines with possible extensions, post every 72 hours or be prodded, you get one "Bah!" post revealing no game-related information, follow site rules and play to your win condition, no discussing this game outside the thread, treat each other with respect, don't quote or pretend to quote mod communication or link to QTs,dark redis my color and mono my font, yadda yadda. Don't use fact that there's no formal rules post up yet as a loophole to do something flagrantly illegal during the next couple of hours, like quote your role PM. I reserve the right to modkill or force-replace for that.
Day One has officially begun!-

This is really depressing. Neither Josh Lyman nor Shattered Viewpoint have picked up their prods.
Come on. No one has posted since yesterday. This is me right now:
I'll start looking for replacements (although they can have their spot back if I don't find one before they return), but a few more people are near prod territory as well. Please, be more active. Or I'll be forced to manipulate you with more pictures of sad kittens.-

Neither smashbro_of_the_SSS nor Guthrie have picked up their prods. But luckily, the wonderful Kitoari has offered to replace in. He will be filling smashbro's slot, since smash has gone longer without posting. I'm amazed by how quickly empty slots have been filled.
Now looking for a replacement for Guthrie. Let's see if our entire player list changes before the end of Day One. I'll probably extend the deadline by a few days to accommodate the replacements.
Edit: On a side note, I've just realized that I've been using two different shades of red as my mod colours all game. Signs of a rookie mod...Last edited by Mina on Sun Nov 28, 2010 3:24 am, edited 1 time in total.-

Since hohum responded before my potential replacement did, he can keep his slot.
Prodding EggyLv999. He has twenty-four hours to post in the thread, or he will be replaced.
By the way, do you guys like the strict prod and replace rules, or would you prefer I was a bit more lenient so as to reduce replacements? I'm happy with how much activity has picked up since our new batch joined the game, but I know at least one booted player still wanted to play.

Goddammit guys, couldn't you have waited until I got back from work to end the day? I'm going to lock the thread now, but I'm posting from a phone. I'll go to a coffee shop and post the vote count, scene, and flip then.
Also, MafiaSSK is long overdue for a prod. If he doesn't post within twenty-four hours of the beginning of N2, I'm going to replace him.
Sorry, Akira, but I can't let people unvote once a hammer has been reached. (Speaking of which...oh, fuck, there's still no rules post, is there.)

I'm so sorry to have kept everyone waiting for the flip. A coworker invited me for dinner, and unfortunately, it would have been really rude to have taken out my phone, done a vote count, and written a scene while I was at her house.

Mod, can you confirm this for me?
Person A and B are both roleblockers. Person C is a vigilante.
Person A blocks person B
Person B blocks person C
Person C kills person D
In this hypothetical situation, assuming no other variables, person D will die, correct? As I'm going by natural action resolution, yes. Person A's action modifies person B's, stopping his roleblock, and allowing C to kill D freely.
Um...wow. I can't believe the day lasted less than twenty-four hours.
This thread is now locked. Any posts from this point forward will be deleted.

Night Two will last from forty-eight to seventy-two hours, AND whenever I find a replacement for MafiaSSK. Assuming I find one immediately, the deadline for all night actions is on Saturday, December 11th, at 3:00 AM EST.-

I really wanted to end the game with an epic scene, but I need to get ready for a birthday thing. So I'll just cut to the chase.
jasonT1981,Mafia[/b], has been deleted on D5.
TOWN WINS!Well, technically, since everyone else's consciousnesses were permanently erased, DemonHybrid and Lateralus22 are the only true winners, but the other townies can rest easy in their vegetative states knowing they were part of the more successful side.
I really need to go get ready for a birthday thing I'm going to, so more thoughts/notes/PMs later. But the graveyard is here. I'll post the Mafia QT if every scum agrees.
But in a nutshell, I was very impressed with how the town's fortunes turned around on D3. I'll be honest. On N2, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of cohesion of the town. When Lateralus sent me his overnight reads upon replacing in and said he suspected Stephoscope and Akira, I figured, "Oh, well, game over." I chalked it off as yet another game lost to lurking and apathy." But wow, everything from D3 onward had me constantly on the edge of my seat. The Lateralus22/DemonHybrid double-team was devastating, and I'd have been shaking in my boots were I scum at that aggressiveness and activity.
That said, I wonder how things would have turned out had the attempted quickhammer never happened.
Thanks to everyone for playing and putting up with a rookie mod, and an extra big thanks to the many, many replacements who stepped in when I needed them and kept this game running and very fast-paced and active at the end. Extra credit to Lateralus, who saved me from having a two-week-long night and turned the game around with his entry to the game.Last edited by Mina on Tue Dec 21, 2010 5:09 am, edited 1 time in total.-

I mentioned as much in the graveyard QT, but yeah, the Akira kill was a mistake. Even had they mislynched Stephoscope on D4, Akira's vig kill wouldn't have won the game for them. They'd have been better.Lateralus22 wrote:Yeah, the quick lynch attempt was really bad. He semi claimed scum in that post. Oddly enough after I come in totally wrong with my reads scum end up getting lynched one after the other. The Akira nk was not the best move though, it would have been possible to push an Akira lynch.
I'd though DH's D1 Mason claim was a mistake at the time (I personally would have waited until D2, when clearing himself would have been more beneficial to the suspect pool), but it ended up working fantastically for him because the doctor threat scared the scum away.
This game showed me the advantages of reacting quickly and being fast and loose with your votes (which is pretty much the polar opposite of my playstyle). This is why I really enjoy the fast games I play offsite, in which you can actually pressure someone and get reactions and bounce ideas off them in real-time.There were some smaller things early but but they kinda blended in, late game was lackluster for scum.
On a side note, my beliefs from early game completely changed towards the end. Though btw The fast lylo days were very fun, I was calling DN by DH half the time lolz. Yeah, Demon was awsome in the end game and I'm glad we got the town win.
<3We should Hydra some time, Mina is also pretty awsome.-

Honestly, the only reason not to is that I'd be slighting DemonHybrid and the other replacements, who were also awesome. But he certainly fits the bill as someone whose replacement turned the game around. Will nominate him when I have time.Lateralus definitely deserves a Best Replacement nomination for that performance.-

Sorry, I've been working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and haven't had time to post PMs/night actions until now.
Done!Lateralus22 wrote: I wouldn't oppose a nomination, actually that'd be pretty cool. Demon deserves some serious credit too for calling out the exact scum time a bit before me and helping me get away from Akira and kinda Steph faster.
jasonT1981, Kitoari, and DeathNote: would you have any problem with me posting the scum QT?
Three-quarters of the fun of C9++ is generating the set-up. The numbers that random.org gave me were 10 (T), 25 (T), 91 (M), 97 (B), 95 (M), 85 (V), and 48 (T)--resulting in a MMBVTTT (or godfather, roleblocker, and goon vs. two masons, a roleblocker, and a vigilante), The set-up was pretty interesting, because every Mafia power, aside from the useless godfather, had a mirror on the town side (night-talking with the masons, roleblocking with ribwich, and night-killing with the vigilante). That said, I was very relieved that ribwich died on N2, because I was having nightmares of what to do if we hit endgame with smashbro/Kitoari vs. ribwich alive. Would it be a tie? A Mafia win, since Kitoari could roleblock ribwich's roleblock and kill him? I couldn't even ask anyone for advice, because it would give away the set-up.
For some reason, Mafiascum is being screwy and giving me an error message when I try to preview this, so I'll make this three posts.
