Calvin and Hobbes mafia was an inadvertent mountainous. I would say that this is a crafty setup. However, there was a no claim rule, and limited reveal. I'd say this pushes the bar to the town having little chance to figure it out, leaving the game in

bastard mod

territory.

So on that point a standard mountainous is 2:10 would you accept inadvertent being 3:9 (I think they're both night starts).

am

one of the mods who doesn't subscribe to the "at least one investigative role, at least one protective role, and no duplicated roles" model - but once that gets out, players begin to metagame you as moderator, and some of the advantage (in cancelling assumptions) gets taken away...

But Flay, when you mod enough different setups without a common throughline, surely your metagame will become "Unpredictable". Like Seol said, the trick is to run different setups without running three of the same different setups in a row.

Draux, it wouldn't change anything. All it would do is double the required to lynch. Of course, everyone has a doublevote so it essentially remains the same.

Oh, and finally a smalltown thats more than just watchers and trackers (not counting scrubs smalltown of course )

NOOOO! The trick to smalltown (and this is why it is so damn hard) is to make it balancable without making the roles suck. The first smalltown was well balanced (IIRC) but the roles were boring Watcher, Tracker, etc.

The later smalltowns had some FANTASTIC roles, but unfortunatly allowed an unlucky roll to unbalance them (e.g. SK/Mafia gets vig as well. )

4 Doctors - town
4 Watchers - town
4 Trackers - town

Its just like Oblivion, theres no real point to it, just a whole lot of stuff to do that doesn't really have any effect.

What do you hope the learn through the mechanic changes? I mean, you can't just do it, you need to have a

reason

otherwise its just pointless changes.

I think theme games should be used to try out a new mechanic or something that really changes the mafia dynamic.

Okay, I have a question about bastardity.

Lets say you make a "movie Mafia mini". The players are the names of characters, except for 3-5 which are the names of movies. This will cause a "characters = town, movies = scum" idea to form and they will probably lynch wrong on it. Granted they're only names, and any smart town will know this.

This occured in F1 mafia with some having partners and some not.

and you'll have dead town movies and/or dead scum characters by the time it's appropriate.

I personally am trying to make my mini's unpredictable. However, my 1st normal was an attempt to break the meta. Unfortunatley people knew I was doing that and wen't "inadvertent mountainous...yeah sure"
