Re: Highest Bidder Mafia
Can you stagger how you use your roles? I'd like to be a Cop-first Vig-after please
Another interesting feature is that the Mafia could bid for items they DON'T want in an effort to keep them out of Townie hands.
It seems fun, but very swingy because of how the bidding system works. If you underestimate the competition for, say, the Vig slot, you could wind up dead regardless of how well you did in the topic.

So each person has two roles, with only one in effect at a time? That sounds intriguing, if tough to balance. Nonetheless, I'd play. (/in as person with Lens of Truth)

Neither of those have been done.
I think I would vastly prefer Wind Waker Mafia tbh; I don't think I actually remember anyone from Twilight Princess because I was too busy loathing the game for the first half.

It probably wouldn't run for quite a while, but what would popular opinion be toward
Mafia Science Theater 3000
?
It wouldn't be based on the Mads and the Bots so much as the characters in the awful movies. If you've ever wanted to have the power to rear-project major cities, make helicopters explode by shooting them with a pistol, ride around the countryside with a bat helmet, get nuked and turn into a caveman, or just be named Steve like everyone else; this would be your chance!
For reasons that should probably be obvious this would be a role madness game.

This idea has been done before, but in anonymafia games (so the parasite/shape-shifting SK/mind-controlling SK/mod-as-player can control the player's account directly).

I seem to remember seeing a game like this in the archives somewhere. I'm too lazy to find where though.

Disregard this; he only ran the Mini.

So I've been doing a lot of heavily mechanic based games this year: Court of the Gods, Strategy Mafia, and now Outwitted. Team Mafia was in some ways a departure from that, but not really since the whole concept was essentially a giant meta-mechanic.
I thought maybe I'd do something a little different. Basically the game is this: you sign up and you submit photos of any animals you have. If there's a story about how you got them or whatever, include that too as well as any breed info, etc.. I will then use the photos/stories to make a cohesive setup.
I don't know. Is there any interest in this? It'd probably be a 14-16 player game.
You have my attention.

I have another idea though. What about an Alternate Reality mafia? If you've seen the NBC show Awake, it would work a little like that.
You would have D1 and everyone has their roles, lynch someone. Then there's N1, night actions taken
But instead of D2, there's another D1 in which everyone is given a different role that can tie into/help their role in the other Days.
So basicly if your a mafia rolecop in reality 1, and a vig in reality 2, you could decide who you want your vig kill to be based on your results as the RC.
There would be two winners, one for each reality.
I just thought of this so there would be much ironing out. Has
this
been done before?
I don't think so. However, you'll have to be careful so that it doesn't benefit someone to out their scumpartners in the alternative reality.

Done almost exactly as said once (there were actually three games combined into one - Tri-Cities Mafia by Quagmire), done with three slightly interconnected games (MtG: Parallel Universes Mafia with Tarhalindur, UncertainKitten, and MafiaSSK), twice with two player-swappable games (Tuthreded Mafia by mathcam and Teleportation Mafia by zoraster), and if you want to throw Team Mafia in, that too.

Normal games are easy though.
Go 11-2 with any of the following combinations of roles on Town's side:
*Cop
*Roleblocker+Tracker
*Masonsx2+Role Cop (actually, go 10-3 for this one)
*Friendly Neighborx2+Vanilla Cop
Steal a ruleset from someone who sounds erudite, lift Role PMs from the wiki or the same person you stole the ruleset from, and smile for the reviewers.

Gollum - Normal doesn't have to be boring; that last setup with the Friendly Neighbors is borderline trolling. (however, I think that setup is unacceptably Town-sided on second thought; I think the optimum way to play F.Neighbor is to only reveal to one person; if you don't die shortly thereafter the two of you are confirmed to each other[?]).
Role PMs don't have to follow a set template as long as you're not too revealing.
Unique redirecting roles are probably right out.
Plotinus - Newbie games also have stronger power roles in general. Plus, their setup is known-ish in advance which counts toward Town power.
10-3 is probably more common than 11-2; both ratios have benefits and drawbacks. I chose fewer scum because balance is a little easier to think about for whimsical setup toss-outs.

For reference, this was my Mini Normal. Different times, and I don't know how the NRG would react to Semi-Open these days, but it should give an idea of how you could make a reasonably distinctive game yet Normal.
(I also got a bunch of good players to start an invitation circle for this game. I don't think you can do that any more )

The intent of "no flavor" is that you shouldn't have to fake your whole Role PM just to fake a role. Since all of the role PMs were public to begin with, the spirit of the rule was fulfilled.

What I'm getting at is less
what I think you should run
so much as
you can still have fun within the rules set
. That list took me like 120 seconds to dream up, most of which were spent navigating to the Normal page on the wiki.
Getting a Normal setup reviewed before you send it to the NRG is kind of redundant, but allowable. If your goal is just to get this over with, it's probably not necessary to wait on an outside reviewer. I will caution you that Redirector is definitely not Normal and a variant based on it won't be either. (Also, telling people what your unique role will be like in a closed setup is kind of etc. )
