Worst roles I can remember having:
Hated Townie

You take one vote less to lynch.
OK, this is a liability role. Best way to play it is agressively, get lynched or NK'd early as I'm too dangerous late, and see what dust I can throw up. I didn't know that I'd become a serial killer on night 2....
Conan the Barbarian

Post restricted Mafia. Can only speak in grunts.
My first ever role in Scumchat. I got lynched day 1, obv.

It's a liability in endgame, so it's better to play it aggressively. The bit of the role that was
really
evil was having my win condition changed
after I'd being playing that way deliberately for all of day 1
so my survival was essential instead of undesirable.

I've heard many opine that the job of a vanilla is to get yourself nightkilled. Moreso with this role than a standard vanilla. And in a mini game, you can find yourself in near-endgame situations after only a couple of days.

Oh, and Andrews - those roles I cited earlier are from a game which included Chuck Norris too. He was a vig who could only vig people who were voting him at the end of the day, with a one-shot dayvig on someone who was voting him, invoked by posting "
I roundhouse kick you in the head
" along with a quote of the person voting him.

Someone has written an application which converts normal text into "post-restricted" text and back again. That's clearly going against the intention of a post restriction and, whilst it shows a great deal of ingenuity, is frankly ridiculous.

The point of a hard post restriction (of the sort "you may only bark") is that you cannot communicate, with the possible exception of emphasis and timing. I'd say "once for yes and twice for no" is code - it's a really simple code, but it's obvious when it's being used. If it's banned, then... well, yeah, if someone uses code you modkill them. That's what happens when you break the rules.

It's rare for someone to have a hard post restriction role, but sometimes you get roles which can post-restrict other players.

Silent Partner

You are Mafia along with X, Y, Z. However, you are not in the town, you're back in New York.

You cannot post, and you do not count as a player for affecting people's win conditions. However, you can talk to the Mafia at night. You win when the Mafia wins.

Both of these new threads will continue as normal (and in each game everybody will have the same roles and role powers), however one will be real and one will merely be a hallucination; for win conditions only the real game will count.
I'ld like to see that
Get yourself lynched day 1. Then, by comparing threads, you can have (effectively)double the cop investigations and lynches. Never lynch the same person in both games unless they're confirmed scum - you get twice the lynch info too. Massive power boost to town, if they use it properly.

However, it's certainly very interesting.

It's really, really dependent on who you're stuck forcing to replace. If say, you're forced to get me or Yosarian2 replaced, you're probably completely screwed. At least with a lyncher you could fake a cop claim or something.
What if we made the game unbearable for you? For example, were simply massively offensive in every post? Could we get you to ask to be replaced then?

I'm really hard to offend, especially in a mafia game. Trying to throw swear bombs at me is more likely to get everybody else in the town to lynch you so that the swearing will stop than it is to get me replaced.

Seriously, I've never been replaced ever. You might have success if you try threatening me in real life, but at that point we've clearly crossed a line. (You should never do anything in a mafia game that should get yourself arrested.)
That indicates a disappointing lack of commitment. If you're not prepared to burn down your opponent's house, you don't deserve to win.

Well, as scum anyway. I wouldn't say it's appropriate if you're town.

You are
None of the Above
.

You have no night abilities. Should the game reach deadline, all players who are not voting will have their votes counted against you. You win with the town.

You are the
Witchhunter General
. You've got an absolutely foolproof way of telling if someone's evil or not - you toss them in a lake and see if they drown. If they do not drown, they are obviously practising the dark arts.

Each night you may investigate a player, and I will tell you if they are innocent or guilty. However, if they are innocent, this will kill them.

Heh. That's actually a pretty cool pro-town role; there are times I would use that ability.
It's just a nerfed vig that looks like a nerfed cop. But I like the flavour. :D

You are
Kuribo's Shoe
. You are, without a doubt, the coolest power-up Mario has ever encountered. You can walk atop Piranha Plants, and you have a pleasingly gambollic gait. As such, you are beyond suspicion and are therefore unlynchable, and you can best any foe in combat - thus you have a once-per-day daykill. You're that awesome. Oh yeah.

So why are you only on ONE FRICKING LEVEL? Nobody knows. Anyway, so, yeah, you win with the town. However, you are in the game for day 3 and day 3 only (you will not be on the player list prior to day 3, when you join the game, and at the end of day 3 you will leave the game).

You are an
Elephant
.

You are a substantial entity, bending to no-one's will. You are not so easy to lynch as Man, especially as the gallows do not come in Jumbo size. As such, a majority of votes is not sufficient to lynch you. No, you need one vote for every other living player.

However, you are cursed. Elephants, you see, never forget. Elephants have pride, and each vote for your lynch hurts you deeply, you shall take that to your grave. Which might be quite soon.

If the total number of players (alive or dead) who have voted for you at any point in the game equals or outnumbers the number of players other than yourself still alive, you will die. This will not count as the lynch for the day.

You win with the town.

You are 'Arry, of 'Arry, Barry, Carrie and Dave, the Jobsworth Quads. One of the four of you is a Cop, one is a Doctor, one is an Exterminator (Vigilante) and one is a Prostitute (roleblocker), but you've all gone and forgotten which is which. You do know the following, though:

* Carrie is not the Prostitute.
* You are not the eldest of the quads.
* The youngest quad is the Cop.

Each quad knows something different which might be useful.

Each night you may submit a nightchoice, which must specify who you are targetting and what job you are attempting to do. If you attempt a job other than your own, then you will fail (if you chose Cop and are not the cop, you will get a random result).

You are the
Omniscient Mafioso
.

The setup of the game is: <attach game setup, obviusly without role allocations>

You are scum with X and Y. You can talk with them at night, and between you submit a kill on any one player. You win when all players who are not scum are dead.

The idea being that the worst role here is anyone who's town. 8)

That said, I'm working on a game where that role both fits and is nicely balanced...

You are the
Doctor
. You can save lives by dosing people up with sufficient drugs that even a bullet wound to the skull in their sleep will not kill them. Furthermore you are now sufficiently senior to have earned a 9 to 5 schedule! As such you cannot administer your doctoring during the night, but only the day.

Each day, at any point during the day (but only once per day), you may write a prescription for a given player by stating
Prescribe Lifesaving Medications For: X
in the thread (where X is the name of the player to be targetted that night. Bolding is important - the nightchoice will not apply without this. That player will be immune to nightkills that night.

You are town etc
You are a
Dreamer
, a man of unique insight and perception. Each night you have strange, prophetic visions of things to come - of seven fat cows and seven thin cows, that sort of thing. Perhaps if you concentrate on a specific player, you could glean directed insights.... well, if only you understood the dreams.

Each night you may choose a player, and you will receive a dream vision about them. If there is someone in the town who can understand these dreams, then between you, you could discover all sorts of interesting truths!
Mod note - there
isn't
a dream decoder.

You are the
Glass Truth Ball
, Sacrificial Townie Truthteller, who shall reveal all on your destruction. At any point during the day, you may PM me with a targetted player to shatter yourself and reveal the truth within.

If you do this on day 1, you shall reveal the alignment of the targetted player (with absolute accuracy regardless of any abilities they have), and daykill them if they are scum.

If you do this on day 2, you shall reveal the alignment and all abilities of the targetted player.

If you do this on day 3, you shall reveal the alignment of the targetted player with the same accuracy as a standard sane cop.

If you do this on day 4, you shall reveal all abilities of the player (other than group-related ability to talk to other players at night or group-related ability to kill), but not their alignment.

If you do this on day 5, you shall reveal their rolename.

On day 6 or later your role has no effect.

Using the ability will instantly kill you.

You are town etc etc blah blah.
For a mini game where rolename and role descriptor are separate. Note that role abilities include appearing town to investigation.

Note how my final comment on that was [insert snark here]. Don't particularly care about your preferences (could have gone the homophobe route there too actually), just being my usual difficult self ^_^
Oh, I didn't think you were being particularly serious there. It's a potentially interesting debate, but to be fair, it's one for GD not MD.
