Slaxx has used that role as a town-sided role as well (Charmer), but without the "If they die before you..." caveat.

I believe a very similar role has been used. Let me see.

Here we go: Fate's role in Mostly Mountainous Mafia. Well, bastardly different in that the Mafia were told Fate was a fellow Mafia.

The implementation was not well received by the scum.
