It's the pandemic again. Corporate spies have infiltrated a group of interns on a Zoom call, attempting to liase with their manager, who is directing the whole group. The spies have a contact in the IT department, who can sever someone's connection to the Zoom call for them, but he's busy with handling everyone else's remote work difficulties, and so he can only sever someone once every so often. The traitorous manager can't blow his cover, so he can't send email or use any other communication methods to get to the spies, because his laptop's being monitored for activity. Plus, there are ten witnesses — if he just boots everyone off the Zoom call then they'll know something's up and contact his superior. Thus, he and the spies need to make it look like the legitimate interns voted to kick each other out of the training session under suspicion of being traitors.

The spies are a known quantity — this company is valuable and their rival would take any advantage they can get. This is the first time that the interns have met, so they haven't exchange contact info. The traitors have a group text open on their unmonitored phones, though, so they can still contribute to the main discussion and collude.

This also gives dead people a reason to win — they don't die and aren't fired. Plus, we have an excuse for the mod existing — and unusually, the mod is on scum's side.
