New players will probably want to start playing one game here before playing elsewhere on the site.
Reply in this thread indicating that you'd like to play ("/in for next" is a standard way of doing so).
You will get a PM from your game moderator when your game is about to begin.
Your name should be added to the first post within 24-48 hours. The waiting time for a game to start is currently 4-5 days, on average. Upcoming games will be full when there is one Inexperience-Challenged (IC) player, two Semi-Experienced (SE) player(s), and six Newbie players available. More/less ICs and SEs may be used in any given game to relieve a backlog on those specific areas of the Queue.
Player Requirements:
For purposes of Player Game Limits:
A
finished
game is one in which you are out of the game (by lynch or night kill) but the game is still being played by others.
A
completed
game is a game in which a winning side has been declared and the game is over.
For purposes of quantifying eligible completed games, two completed micro games will count as one completed game in another queue. Blitz games do not count as experience.
Replacing out of a game will count as a finished game if there was an acceptable level of participation.
Taking on too many Newbie games at one time, getting overloaded, and replacing out of those games can get you banned from the Newbie Queue!
Spoiler: Newer Players
Brand new players may only play in
one
Newbie Game.
Brand new players may either play a Newbie game from scratch or replace into an existing Newbie game for your first game.
Once you are out of your first Newbie game (by lynch, night kill, or the end of the game) you may sign up for a second Newbie game.
Players with one finished game anywhere on site may also replace into as many Newbie games as you can handle.
As a Newer Player, you are only allowed to play two Newbie games from scratch.
Once you have played two Newbie games you are no longer allowed to play Newbie games (except as a replacement) until you play a game outside The Road to Rome, thereby qualifying as an SE player. See the SE section below for more information.
Spoiler: SEs
When you finish any three games, with at least one outside of The Road to Rome, you are then considered a Semi-Experienced (SE) player and will occupy one of the SE playing spots.
SE players may play in as many Newbie games as they can handle.
Spoiler: ICs
First and formost, the IC slot is a VOLUNTARY TEACHING position. If you don't want to be required to explain how the game works to the Newer players, you should sign up to be an SE. More information can be found in the wiki: IC.
A player that finishes any five games, with at least two outside of The Road to Rome, and has at least 3 months on-site may apply to be an Inexperience Challenged (IC) player.
Replacing out of a game does not count as finished!
At least one of your 5 games must be a Newbie game, either as a Newbie or as an SE.
Send the ListMod a PM with links to your 5 most-recent completed games
when you /in to IC
.
If one of your 5 most-recent completed games is NOT a Newbie, you should include a link to a Newbie game.
"/in to IC". The list mod will place you in the SE queue if you do not specify "/in to IC".
Spoiler: Replacements
If you want to replace into a specific game you should send a PM directly to the Mod instead of posting here.
Unless specified, all requested replacements are newbie replacements.
Moderators are welcome to replace with a player of greater skill level if they wish (ICs may replace SEs or Newbies, for example. Newbies may NOT replace into an SE or IC spot).
Please notify the ListMod if you notice a player replace out who then signs up to play another Newbie game within the next 14 days. Replacing due to boredom or any other similarly selfish reason is NOT acceptable and the offender will be suspended from placement into the Queue for a period of two weeks.
You may only be in the modding queue twice at a time. (See this post.)
Potential moderators must have one completed game on this site as a Moderator. See the Modding Requirements wiki article for exact details.
Potential moderators MUST visit the Newbie_Game#Moderators wiki page to see what is required of Newbie game Mods.
Potential moderators must include links to their completed games
when they make the request to be added to the modding rotation
. If you have more than two games as a Mod, please link the latest two.
For purposes of quantifying eligible completed games, three completed micro games will count as one completed game in another queue. Blitz games do not count as experience.
Each Newbie Game will be given a setup that incorporates either one row or one column. The remaining six roles will be filled in by mafia goons and vanilla townies appropriately, to create a 2-mafia and 7-town setup. They are listed below.
Spoiler: Full Setups
Row 1:
Mafia Goon x 2, Town Jailkeeper, Vanilla Townie x 6
Row 2:
Mafia Roleblocker, Mafia Goon, Town Cop, Town Doctor, Vanilla Townie x 5
Row 3:
Mafia Goon x 2, Town 1-shot Bulletproof, Town Tracker, Vanilla Townie x 5
Column A:
Mafia Roleblocker, Mafia Goon, Town Jailkeeper, Town 1-shot Bulletproof, Vanilla Townie x 5
Column B:
Mafia Goon x 2, Town Cop, Vanilla Townie x 6
Column C:
Mafia Goon x 2, Town Doctor, Town Tracker, Vanilla Townie x 5
All Newbie games should use the Natural Action Resolution system for determining Night action effects. Roleblocker actions will take precedence over Jailkeeper actions should that apply. The 1-shot Bulletproof is a passive ability that cannot be roleblocked.
First-time mods should use the sample role PMs below.

I apologize if I'm missing something simple, but for my purposes in counting "how many Mods are in front of me" -- are the four "Awaiting" slots distinct from the list above it?
If those four slots are indeed in the Queue, then /in to Mod.
That was more a note to myself that I hadn't yet reviewed their OP (may change the formatting, since it's confusing). But I can add you below them when I update the queue.

Queue updated. BBmolla appears to have site-flaked, so as soon as I get a buffer of new players, the next game will go to Haylen if she's still around.

Cleaned up permissions to the newbie group. The only people who should have Centurion access are former newbie queue mods and moderators with active threads in The Road to Rome. If you believe you have mistakenly lost your permissions, please PM me!
Upon suggestion, first post edited to list all six possible setup configurations in detail. It's also clarified that new mods are bound to use the standard role PMs in the OP.

Update coming.
In post 99, Howl wrote:I inned in other queues but haven't actually played a game here yet can I still in here.
I played elsewhere so didn't think I was ok to play newbie games but I read the rules and saw it was ok for new to the site.
If I'm ok to play here then /in
Also do I need to out of the other queues?
1. If you've never completed a game on-site, you may only play a single newbie game at a time. But this only applies to the Newbie Game Queue. As long as you have time to devote to all of them (replacements/lurkers aren't fun for players or mods), you're welcome to /in for multiple games on-site if you want.
2. Anyone can join a newbie game. It doesn't matter how much experience you have, on-site or off-site. However, if you've completed 0-1 games on mafiascum, you're added as a Newer Player rather than as a Semi-Experienced Player.

Queue updated.
Thanks to all the IC volunteers! Assuming I only go with one IC (for once, the queue can support a second one), I'll skip down to Cabd on the IC list, since toolenduso is a first-time newbie mod.
In post 126, choof wrote:oh hey, do I not get a "1" next to my name because my first game is still on-going?
No, you didn't get a 1 because...
...what are you talking about, you crazy person? There's definitely a 1 by your name.

Queue updated. If I do not get another new player /in within twenty-four hours, I'll run the game with four newbies, three SEs, and two ICs, unless toolenduso, Tammy, or Cabd has an issue with this. (I understand that two ICs changes the dynamics of IC-ing.)

Take seventeen...
The confusion is because instead of using the SE guidelines, I was reading the Newer Player guidelines, which mentioned you can only play two games as a newbie, and interpreted that to mean that after two games, you become an SE.
However, I missed this line:
Once you have played two Newbie games
you are no longer allowed to play Newbie games (except as a replacement) until you play a game outside The Road to Rome
, thereby qualifying as an SE player. See the SE section below for more information.
So unfortunately, the way the rules are currently written, I can't accept lolbabe's /in until he has at least one completed game in another queue. (I don't want to change them yet without conferring with someone else, given I'm new to the position.)

I honestly don't know what was intended by VRK/singer, but "finished" makes a lot more sense to me than "completed", so I'm going with that because I say so!

In post 226, onion wrote:/in to ic, but this is my first game in years, so maybe less ic than others. who knows. figured i'd start again with a newbie game.
Sorry, but you don't seem to have enough games played to IC. Unfortunately, since you have two completed newbie games, if you want to play another newbie, you'd have to replace in. (SE slots are only available once you've completed at least one game outside The Road to Rome.)
Also, as a general PSA, first-time ICs are only added to the queue after they've been reviewed and approved.

I just fixed the links in the Newbie Game Wiki page and jeep's old sticky in the Road to Rome forum. Let me know if there are any other outdated links. Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention!

Next newbie game will probably start tomorrow, because I'm waiting on a couple of responses from people. However, xRECKONERx, Aeronaut, or Bulbazak, PM me if you have any issues with there being two ICs in the next game instead of one if no one else /ins as a newbie or SE.

Thanks! I'm still launching the current game with two SEs, just because I'd prefer to keep as few newbies waiting as possible, but you'll probably come in handy next game.

Sorry, speedysnail02, but Marquis is talking about the game that's just filled. You need to wait for there to be enough people to fill the game after that, which could take a couple of days.
Maestro has still not picked up his PM. I'll give him a bit over twenty-four hours (or roughly three days since it was sent) before passing his player list onto fferyllt.
Looking for somebody who isn't a Newbie already in their first game to replace speedysnail02, who has failed to pick up their Role PM. Please PM me as soon as possible, Newbie 1568 is just starting but I would've preferred it start with all players confirmed.
Stealing Saurian333 for this, but now I need a proper Newbie replacement for ShortcutButton, who's failed to pick up a prod that was sent to him. Anybody not a Newbie already in their first game should PM me to replace in.
Saurian333 replaced into Nobody Special's game a few posts above you (sorry, the OP hadn't been updated, yet) so you can't steal him. Also, the game thread has been open for almost a week (and was created close to two weeks ago), so I think you should make this slot open to replacements rather than steal a player, particularly since you'd previously requested a replacement for the same slot here.

In post 521, GrimbleGrumble wrote:So. I have played on the site before. But not for a peroid of many years. Between which I have played no mafia at all. So despite being fully aware of roles/rules and confident in my abilities to make cohesive arguments I am just a wee bit uneasy with the idea of stepping in to non new player game right away. So while I technically dont QUITE fit the tag of newbie I feel I come very close and feel a new player game would benefit me.
/in if the queue mod feels its appropriate. Otherwise a PM discussing alternatives would be welcome.
After talking to GrimbleGrumble, I'm adding him as a newbie slot, since the original account is lost and I wouldn't have even known had he not been so honest about it. This is the rare exception to the rule, though.
