Setup Information

Spare Me Mafia will use a closed setup with semi-normal roles.

In this game, lynches (or eliminations) are not decided by whoever has a majority of votes at the end of the day, but by whoever is left without a vote! By voting someone, you're effectively sparing them from elimination. Think of it as a reverse approach to lynching. Everyone still only has one vote, but instead of voting for a player they want lynched, they're voting for players they want to see spared from elimination. All players need at least one spare vote to be spared, but the more spare votes a player has, the less of a chance he stands at getting eliminated.
No player may vote for themselves at any time.

Deadlines are more important than ever before. The days end in two different ways. The day will end either when the deadline hits or when there is only one player remaining without any votes. After one of these two events occur, the game will go into its twilight phase, and all players without votes are then subject to elimination. During the first day, there's a safety threshold of 75%. This means that 75% of the living players must be spared before going into the night phase. This safety threshold will be lowered by at least 5% everyday.

If the players do not meet the safety threshold at the deadline, the game still goes into a twilight phase. All players who are subject to elimination will go through a resolution process, and, if the safety threshold is still not met, then a random anti-town player will be given free rein to secretly spare players of his choice until the threshold is met. Random.org would be used to calculate which player will get this opportunity. Deadline specifics will be discussed in greater detail below.

This is the only theme mechanic present in the game, so please ask me if you have any questions.

Game Rules

Sparing
-
Spare votes must be in bold, clear context (
Spare: RedCoyote
/
Spare: No One
). You may also use vote tags (VOTE: RedCoyote) if your prefer. This is your power; we both want it to be counted fairly, so try to make it so there's no question who you are voting and unvoting. Unvotes are not necessary. There will be no tolerance for vote tricks, so please do not try to play with any technical aspect of this rule. If challenged, I will likely rule against the player responsible for any voting confusion during the game.

Elimination
-
Once there is only one person remaining without a spare vote, the game will go into "twilight", and the fate of the town has effectively been sealed for that day phase. The town, as well as the player who has been eliminated, is welcome to continue to talk until I officially bring the game into the night phase. Only one player may not have any spare votes in order for a traditional elimination to go through.

Deadlines
-
All deadlines are subject to extension should the need arise. This game is using bankable deadlines. All unused days (rounding off to the nearest day) will be "banked" for the following day phase. The Day 1 deadline is set for 14 days, and all following days will be set at 9 days (before adding any banked time). Every day phase may be extended once either by means of a simple majority of players or by my discretion. By contrast, every night phase has a firm 72 hour, or three day, deadline.

Absence, Prods, and Replacements
-
If you are unable to post for a period of longer than 72 hours, please inform me by PM or make it clear in the game thread. All players have a right to know whether or not a player is absent, and any player who informs me of a future absence will be noted as such. Prods will take place at the request of the players in the game as well as at my discretion. If a player receives a prod, they have exactly 24 hours from the time of that prod to show activity before a request for a replacement will be made. At that point, whomever claims the player slot will become the person playing the game.

Night Actions
-
I will accept any and all actions submitted to me pre-night phase. If no night action is submitted to me before the end of the night phase, the player is assumed to have slept through the night, and no action will take place. Standard night action orders are as follows: Roleblocks > Protections > Conversions > Manipulations > Shots > Investigations

Prohibitions
-
To help ensure a fair, balanced, and fun game, it is prohibited to talk to other players outside of this thread unless you are given specific instructions on how to do so. All players who have been eliminated or otherwise removed from the game are prohibited from making any new posts or talking with any of the living players about the game until the game has been declared over. Respecting tradition, "Bah!" posts are expected, but you must respect the boundaries of the game. No player is allowed to post anything game related in their post-death post, so please use common sense when and if you decide to make one. It is prohibited to quote any Mod PMs for any purpose other than to claim or explain one's powers. It is prohibited to use invisible text, small text, or to otherwise edit your post in anyway. It is prohibited to use the color
red
in order to make sure there are no quarrels over what is and isn't an edit that I have made. I will only be using the color
red
in edits. Any form of trolling, misbehavior, or poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and is hereby prohibited.

Questions and Concerns
-
Do not hesitate in asking me for assistance in understanding any aspect of this game. If anyone spots any mistakes I may have made, please send me a PM. You may expect a response within a maximum of 48 hours. If there is anything else you feel I have not covered, or have not covered adequately, please point it out to me.

Thank you
-
Thanks to SpyreX and bv310 for helping review this game. If anything happens to me, SpyreX has all of the role PMs and who they belong to, and he is the game's official back-up Moderator. Thanks to Cruciare, Vi, Hoopla, and zoraster, as I've stolen general moderation ideas from them to (hopefully) make my games more enjoyable and efficient. Thanks to everyone for signing up, and I hope everyone has a good time.

Townie PM
-
This is an example role PM that may or may not be in this game. There is at least one Townie in this game.

Role PM wrote:Welcome to Spare Me Mafia.

You are a
Townie
. You are sided with the town.

As a Townie, you have no specific abilities during the night. During the day, you are given one vote that you may use toward sparing a specific player (not yourself), or choosing not to spare anyone.

You win if the town eliminates all opposing factions.

Please post a confirmation in the game thread indicating that you have received your role, understand it, and are ready to play!

Pre-Game Status
1) Role PMs being created, randomized, and assigned.

2) Role PMs are now going out. All players may now confirm and ask questions about their role or the game. Players with access to QTs may talk during this period. All players may discuss the game in the thread. The game will begin when I receive at least 11 out of 13 confirmations.

3) Enough confirmations are in, and the game will begin.

Role PMs are all out. There was a bit of a delay as I had to work on a couple of possible endgame scenarios that may have otherwise hurt or possibly broken the overall game. The rules have been edited slightly to account for that. As it now stands, I believe every situation is accounted for. Some of you have already raised some concerns with the way the spare voting system might be abused by scum voting themselves in a circle, but rest assured that measures are in place so that will not be the case. Still, this is a theme game with a fairly demanding mechanic. I cannot guarantee the game will be flawless, but I've made every effort to make it so.

The thread is now open for confirmation/discussion/strategy talk/banter/etc. The QTs are all now open as well.

For those currently unaware this account is a hydra with two heads, neither of us have ever used a hydra in the past therefore we apologise in advance for any strain this may place on the game. I will tag my posts with a R down the bottom of it and will convince my other head to tag his with a G. Now on to setup speculation, from what I can tell the only change to the setup rules was:

"A random anti-town player will be given free rein to secretly spare players of his choice until the threshold is met."

I don't see how this mechanic prevents mafia from sparing each other if anything it enhances their likelyhood of winning. Therefore there must be an alternative mechanic to prevent mafia from sparing each other until game end, any ideas as to what this may be? On top of that 'The QTs are all' implies more then one, multiple scum-allignments?
-R.
There are three ways of dealing with difference: domination, compromise, and integration. By domination only one side gets what it wants; by compromise neither side gets what it wants; by integration we find a way by which both sides may get what they wish. - Mary Parker Follett.

I don't think there are more than one scum team in a mini game. Maybe a SK but even that with limited shots.

Let's see who this Spare mechanic works.

@ Duplicity...I PMed RC about that and he said he had it under control.
Therefore I'd like a silly test on D1 to confirm how scumteam sparing works...everybody spares each player on the playerlist in order then unspares.

I actually agree with that chess.

It will help.

BUT REMEMBER WE DO THIS BY SPARING THEN WAITING FOR VC THEN UNVOTING. IF WE ARE ALL VOTING DAY ENDS. Or so I think it works.

Whats the purpose of that exactly? Is that like another one of those stupid mass claim ideas?

You want someone to die, dont vote for them.
Want someone to live, vote for them.

Spare: Freewill

There, now whoever the hell that is gets to live.

In the meantime, do we have to act like politicians and start soliciting spare votes?

It's like a mass claim where we find out who is scum.
I am sure that is a bad thing. I was sarcastic if it isn't obvious.

unless you think mod just wouldn't count scum partners sparing each other in which case we will need like 500 thousand votecounts to figure that out.

Perhaps scum just don't know their partners. LOLCULTGAME

I didn't get a role...
I'll explain it to you. You have to get someone else to understand it for you.

vezokpiraka wrote:I actually agree with that chess.

It will help.

BUT REMEMBER WE DO THIS BY SPARING THEN WAITING FOR VC THEN UNVOTING. IF WE ARE ALL VOTING DAY ENDS. Or so I think it works.
The day ends when only one person has no one voting to spare them. So it's possible for everyone to vote but not have the day end. The soonest the day can end is when 12 people are voting. In either case, casting a vote between the last two 'unspared' players is like a reverse-hammer.

I honestly don't think voting every player is likely to reveal anything, however, R thinks chesskid is probably town for suggesting it regardless. I'm inclined to agree.

preview edit: Are people seriously voting to spare at random? That doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
There are three ways of dealing with difference: domination, compromise, and integration. By domination only one side gets what it wants; by compromise neither side gets what it wants; by integration we find a way by which both sides may get what they wish. - Mary Parker Follett.

Waiting for clarification on how my role works
but if I'm right it's pretty anti-town.

/confirm

I'm not sure how exactly this game works, but it looks like we're supposed to town-hunt.

The issue with this game i can see is that all but one player has to agree who to lynch (which is impossible). IF not all agreeing, then the day's lynch is up to a random scum player, which makes sure that lynches will never hit scum... -.-

Or i'm reading it wrong. I just reread the spare me rules. It looks like if 75% of the town is spared, then the other 25 % gets eliminated? Yow.

RC, can you explain the rules more clearly, and tell me which of my interpretations is correct.

1 person gets eliminated only, if i've interpreted it right.

But yeah idk what this safety threshold thing is

I didn't come here to play the game. I came to spectate the match between Fate and Freewill. But sure, /confirming role and whatnot.

to adress the just saving scumbuddies every single time?

And since the obvious counter to that is scum can't save each other, but that has an obvious test, it has to be something else?
