I was just about to suggest something like that.

By the way, I always assumed the "most prolific player" award went to the post-happy person who posted the most of anyone inside of mafia games during that year; the person who was both in lots of games and was incredibly active in all of them.

I tend to think that "most prolific player" has more to do with the amount of posting you do then with the number of games you're in, PJ; if someone's in 10 games and is semi-lurking in most of them, they're not going to get that award.

I think that considering the problem we have with lurkers and semi-lurkers these days, if we just define "most prolific player" as "person who is one of the most active player in all of his games", that's a great thing to encourage with a scummy.

mneme wrote:It's true. Not "most games you're in," but "mosts post/games".

It's still subject to abuse (some people post too much while saying nothing, and are quite annoying with) - perhaps "most consistent?", or some such for someone who never lurks, never disappears for long periods (at least not without a LA post about it), and is a consistent poster in all their games?
Ok. So, most prolific player should be someone who:

1. Has not been replaced in any games all year
2. Is a very active player in most or all of their games
3. Is generally a consistantly active player in all of their games.

And, while it probably shouldn't go to someone who's only been in like, say, 2 games all year, the number of games shouldn't really matter otherwise.

Sound good to everyone?

Wait...what? I thought we'd decided we weren't going to get rid of the prolific player award? Lurking is getting to be such a problem, we REALLY NEED to be encouraging people to be more active in their games...

Well, I never said we shouldn't have a "behind the scenes" award, but there's nothing wrong with giving out an award for someone who's consistantly very active in their games. Games where everyone or almost everyone just stops posting/vanishes/goes down to posting once a week or less are one of the most consistantly annoying things on this site.

The most un-lurkerish player?

The Leading Content Providor.

#1 Pretty Purely Pro-town Posting Pontificator.

Now that the game is over and we can actually do this, I agree with Yogurt and I want to nominate Pooky in 461 for best night scenes. The flavor that game was great.

Nominate
Pooky The magical Bear in Mini 461 For this lynch scene.

Sort of a general "Paragon Award for Bad Guys"? Hmm. How about "Do not take candy from this man?"

mneme wrote:A thot (not neccessarily a good thought, but hey). We don't accept negative awards, because they are rightly thought to be wellsprings of negativity. And that's true enough -- though one misses them, as in the right spirit, they can also be sources of humor.

So...what if negative categories were allowed -- but unlike regular categories, nominees would -have- to self-nominate; nobody else could put you up for, oh, "Worst Scum", but if you wanted a bit of self-levity, you could put yourself up for it? Would that still have the same problems?
Eh...I don't really like the idea of people nominating themselves, even for negitive awards. You could say, as a rule, that the person would have to post in the thread and specifically accept the award.

Thestatusquo wrote:I would like to put forward the suggestion that ICs in noobie games should not be put forward for "best of" awards.
Eh...no reason to make that a rule, I think; it's harder to really shine as a great player if the opposition dosn't really know what they're doing, but still, winning as town in a newbie game is incredibly challanging for anyone, and if you manage to figure out who both scum are and get them lynched (especally if one of the scum is a strong IC player himself) and just play really good mafia in general that game, I don't see why you shouldn't be eligible for an award for it. We do want to encourage more people to be IC's, after all.

Sarcastro wrote:How about a "Leonidas Award", for "Best Performance in a Losing Cause"?

This obviously has nothing to do with the fact that I've lost every game I've played this year, frequently by the slimmest of margins.
...but what if you try to win the "best loser" award, but lose?
