The Scummies are for MAFIA related awards. If Mish Mash is going to throw out awards, it needs to be a separate thing. Note that the Scummies only deal with mafia games, they don't even branch out into social aspects of the site (like best GD thread, best poster, etc)

Eh, I'm still of the mindset that the two awards pointed out are still strictly Mafia related. Funniest Poster is solely for in game posts, and Name Should Be in Orange is a special award that mith alone decides based on contributions to the site.

If there's not man power for a Mashies then that says enough. It's not realistic to expect judges to do MM games as well, especially considering the wide variety of games played there. With the Scummies, it's all Mafia. With MM, it's Survivor, Big Brother, casino games, original concepts, etc. how do you standardize judging across multiple mediums and platforms? Furthermore, a lot of the strategy from those games is done off site or internally, so it's difficult to judge who really did the best without all the information.

That's really bad logic. It has been on the site for YEARS. People who have been on the site for YEARS know about it. If people are interested in it, they'll go play it. It's not a matter of exposure, and you're going about this all wrong. I know you're passionate about MM, but proposing a way to "get people actively involved" in it is just wrong. It's not a thing people HAVE to be actively involved in -- it's a special forum for people who want to play games that aren't mafia.

I know about it, and I rarely play anything there. Same can be said for a MAJORITY of the users on this site.

I think there's a very vocal minority who love MishMash so much that they have a personal attachment to it and that often lets them forget that this is a mafia website, first and foremost. MishMash is just an added bonus. If you want to advertise it, put it in your signature or something. But expecting sitewide drives to get people to sign up for MishMash games is... for lack of better word... ridiculous.

Regarding Team Mafia:

I'm not sure why it didn't win. Our group only got to judge the second half of the awards and then the first half versus second half finals. We were all shocked that Team Mafia didn't make it. Anyone who says it wasn't really a mechanic or that it didn't change the way the game was played obviously didn't play in it, or play the same way SDC did. Being constantly active in four games at once and trying to catch scumslips cross-game based on certain teammates making mistakes was a brand new mechanic, as was the scoring system which made certain decisions like Fate/Nacho bussing Fugitive in AMG a very risky decision. In fact, Magua's Marketplace mechanic was more "stale" than Team Mafia, as buy-your-powers have been done time and time again... I still think he's perfectly deserving of an award, but I know for our group, if Team Mafia had been up there in the finals, it would've been a slam dunk victory.

Here's to hoping Team Mafia 2012 actually wins it.

Psychic Mafia winning Best Town was also decidedly unexpected... but all of the nominees for Best Town Performance were rather weak compared to past years' winners. I think the fact that Psychic Mafia ended on D2 with a perfect victory and town was able to work together to derail wagons on other townies while not falling victim to severe infighting is what gave it the edge. I think it was up against Back to the Future Mafia in the finals, IIRC.

Not really. The best people for the award don't always win. It's not a perfect science. People who don't win can be deserving, as can those that do.
