Totally disagee - If you are 'giving up' you are not playing towards your wincon and you should not be playing games if you just give up when things look bad

I think "giving up" is just stating it too strongly - I can easily imagine a player not quite believing in the possibility of a positive outcome not playing his best game without a conscious decision on his part.
