Their entire play was excellent, but CORRECTLY pegging the town cop then instigating the cop into investigating them as the MAFIA GODFATHER then finishing the game as confirmed town was just insanely good.

Somehow this was overlooked in the nominations

I thought it had been nominated because so many people mentioned that that play deserved it.

I thought someone else was going to do it.

Mind explaining HOW I've done a Cunning Manipulation? (I haven't won any games as scum due to my own play--that of my partner, sure, plenty. But the award tends to imply, "scumteam would have lost without this player on their team", and to my knowledge, I have not done that.)

--Yosarian2 did a nice job of explaining exactly why that claim managed to strike CTD some huge town points, and why it was absolutely brilliant. (Though--as mentioned--anyone who reads the whole scum QT [good reading] will know that--once more--MBL should get an honorable mention, the idea just as much his as it was CTD's.)

. Magister Ludi does a good job of describing the situation--from Day Two onward, he was always on scum, he pushed them hard, to the point where he was at certain points considered for the nightkill despite being a lynch candidate. Speaking of being a lynch candidate, he was one since Day Two as well. The fact that he managed to successfully convince the town that he shouldn't be lynched, and lead scum lynches on all those days, really speaks as a testament to his skill.

I'm sorry but am I correct in thinking that the "losing cause" for the scumteam in that game was playing against a town that was better than them?

Not really. MBL only got lynched because of a last-minute gunsmith guilty on him--and Yosarian2 had to fight VERY hard to get that lynch; the town almost lynched David instead. Hydra vs. Yosarian2 was a close match as well, with the game almost ending in a scum win (again) because of a brief Yosarian2 vote from another town member. CTD vs. Yosarian2 is as mentioned one of the most epic battles you'll ever see in a game. Other than Yosarian2, most of the town didn't have much of an idea who the scum were other than Parama. There's a reason Yosarian2's getting nominated for Best Scumhunter and not the town for Best Performance: it was almost entirely him that led to the victory, since without him, it almost certainly would have been a scum victory.

The game was extremely fun, incredibly well-thought-out, and pretty innovative, in my opinion. The flavor was beautiful and incredibly detailed, and even had personalized death PMs. AV was mostly on-time with the votecounts (the only reason he wasn't entirely on-time is because of the very rapid pace of the game; it's double the length of most minis ), had timely prods, fast replacements, and was quick to explain things people were questioning.

Maybe someone else can explain it better, but it definitely is a worthy game of nomination. Extremely fun, a good read, and well worth the time put in.
