I'll
second
that (Glork, Tree Stump), though I dislike the implication that he "won the game" for us. He certainly deserves consideration for such an award if it is created, though.

(Wouldn't that fall under "Best Performance: Replacement", though?)

(Btw, this year I intend to finalize a list of awards-to-be-considered around mid-year, with definitions and what not. There was a little confusion I think last year as far as what falls under what category.

Also, I am considering having two sets of judges, with the awards split between them, to avoid the judges-being-nominated problem entirely.)

Sowwy, he certainly helped out a lot, though!
No disagreement there. :)

Flay, possibly, though we don't pick judges completely at random from everyone on the site - we try to get a good mix of vets and (relatively) new players. An additional consideration, however, is that the number of awards has grown over the years, and given the shortish window between the close of nominations and the Oscars, we're not giving the judges a whole lot of time to read so many games.

(Also, could someone poke me in, say, August, if I haven't returned to the list-of-awards thing? I'll likely post a draft, open it up for discussion for a few weeks, and then finalize the list.)

The Best Newbie award is more for a "body of work", not a single performance. Best Performance: Scum would be more appropriate here.

Nominations will close in about a week.

I'll make sure to get a finalized list of awards and nominations posted a few days beforehand (and if someone would like to compile a list of games that ended in 2008 for consideration, people might find that useful). Will be extremely busy until Monday, but I should have some free time after that.

The list of awards will look something like this:

Player Awards:

Single game:

The "Oscar" for Best Performance by an Individual (Pro-Town)
The "Oscar" for Best Performance by an Individual (Mafia)
The "Goodfellas" Award for Best Performance by a Team (Any Alignment)
The "Hannibal Lecter Award" for Best Serial Killer
The "?? Award" for Most Outstanding New Player
The "Cassandra" Award for Best Performance in a Losing Cause

The "Johnny Cochrane" Award for Best Role Claim
The "George W. Bush" Award for Funniest Role Claim

Across multiple/all games:

The "Paragon of Mafia Hunters" Award for Best Mafia Catcher
The "Don Corleone" Award for Most Cunning Manipulator
The "White Knight" Award for Best Replacement (I envision this being an award for those players who replace into games frequently and are active in them, rather than a performance award for a single replacement; the judges may consider awarding it differently, however, as most of the current nominations seem to be of the latter variety.)
The "??" Award for Best IC (Likewise, this award would take into account number of games IC'd, activity in those games, helpfulness toward the newbies, etc.)

Moderator Awards:

Most Enjoyable Large Game
Most Enjoyable Mini Game
The "Paperback Writer" Award for Tastiest Flavor
The "??" Award for Best Setup
The "??" Award for Best Role

Site Awards:

The "Coffee on the Monitor" Award for Funniest Player
The "Professor Mafia" Award for Best Contribution to Mafia Discussion
The "Name Should Be In Orange" Award for Behind the Scenes Contributions

As things stand, some awards may not be handed out due to a lack of nominations, but there is still time to nominate players for those.

Suggestions for those that don't have names are welcome...

I prefer to keep the identity of the judges secret until the award ceremony, but I would think that lists of games for multi-game awards could only help.
