It's possible to play this game without lying, as long as you don't see alliances you might break later as lying.

And when I make an alliance I know I might break later, I'm actually kind of sincere when I make it, ie, yes, I would like to work with you in the short term. (For example, when I allied with Claire early in Greece, I knew she was going to be expendable)
