Newbie #228 - The Doom of Tinytown (Game Over!)

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Fri Apr 28, 2006 6:35 am

Post by Mr. Flay »

There's a doom upon Tinytown (the Latverian home of small, defenseless creatures like yourselves), and it's up to the seven of you to figure out whodunnit.

Players:
  • viper0933
  • Arvadite
  • RandomActs
  • Erotomachia
  • Kelly Chen (
    replacement for MeMe
    )
  • Iammars
  • ChrisV
Game over! See last pages for roles and results.

Of course, this would all be a lot easier if you weren't sure that some of you haddunnit. Two of you, in fact, though you're not sure who else is what. Here's the possibilities:

Roles:

2 people are
Scum:
The Mod wrote:You are
Scum
, along with your partner _________. Your goal is to eliminate the pro-town players so that only you remain; you win if this happens. You may talk with your partner at Night, and send me a choice via PM of who you wish to kill. During the Day, try to blend in with the rest of the players, and get someone lynched (if that someone is not your partner or yourself, that will make things much easier).
Either 1 person, or nobody, is a
Doctor:
The Mod wrote:You are the
Doctor
, and you can protect people from harm. Each Night, you may send me a choice via PM of who to protect; if they come under attack by the scum, they will live. You win if the scum are eliminated, so choose wisely at Night, and try to lynch correct during the Day.
Either 1 person, or nobody, is a
Cop:
The Mod wrote:You are the
Cop
, and you can tell good from bad. Each Night, you may send a player's name to me; I will let you know if your investigation shows that they are Scum or Town. You win if the scum are eliminated, so choose wisely at Night, and lynch well during the Day.
The rest of you (3, 4, or 5, for those keeping count) are
Townies:
The Mod wrote:You are a
Townie
, and you've got no special powers at Night. No investigations, no protection, no gun to shoot people. But, you do have a vote, which is quite powerful (though no more powerful than anyone else's vote). Help lynch scum during the Day, and you will win the game, along with the rest of the Town.
This is commonly known as the setup, for reasons mostly known to Norinel.

Even though most games start with Night, newbie games begin with Day once everyone has confirmed that they understand their role. Scum are allowed to talk by PM in the pregame, but no other "night actions" may be taken.

Rules:
  • Votes should be in bold for them to count, like this:
    Vote: Doctor Doom
. Unvotes should likewise be bolded (
    Unvote: Reed Richards
) so that I can spot them easier.
  • A simple majority of votes (1/2 the number of living players plus one, rounded down) will achieve a lynch and end the Day. Unvoting after that point will not save someone's life. If a deadline is imposed, the required number of votes will be lowered, so be careful.
  • Nights will last up to 72 hours, but may be shorter if all night choices are in before the deadline; they will never be less than 24 hours, however.
  • Dead men tell no tales. If you get killed, stop talking until the game is over (a single "Bah!' post with no game information is acceptable).
  • Do not discuss this game with other players outside of this thread, unless your role PM specifically stated you could do so (as scum, and then only at night).
  • Do not directly quote any external communications; I have already posted the role PMs above, but this holds true for any future messages you receive as well.
  • Do not edit/delete game posts, even if you have the privileges to do so. It is unethical and can mess up the game thread. I will take care of any double-postings/horrific typos myself.
  • If you see something you don't understand,
    ASK!
Newbie games are here for people to learn and understand; either I or one of the other players will respond to your question. If it has to do with your role, feel free to PM me directly.
  • Treat this game as a commitment; if you're going to be gone for longer than 72 hours (not counting weekends),
    let us know
. I will replace severely inactive players, but the other players may choose to lynch you themselves first.
  • Have fun; don't be an ass;
    participate
    !

Either will work, just wanted to know you were around and ready to play.

It is now Day One. With seven of you alive, four votes will be enough to summon the Doombots and cause a lynch.

I do indeed count votes that happen to come before I formally opened the Day, since you all were so eager and ready. Let me know if there were any mistakes/further questions, and be happy!

Ordinarily I'd expect people to bold to have their votes counted, but in the case of newbies who are obviously making an effort, Il make an exception (at first). Hence, Arvadite's votes count so far, but now his/her free pass is used up. :P

Seventh Vote Count of Day One:

Erotomachia - 1 (Kelly Chen)
Arvadite - 1 (RandomActs)
viper0933 - 1 (Arvadite)

Not voting - 4 (Iammars, viper0933, ChrisV, Erotomachia)

With seven players alive, four votes will lynch.
Seven is your lucky number, though, because it's time for a
retractable deadline of Saturday, May 20th at midnight
(US Central time). At deadline, only 50% of the cast votes will be needed to lynch, as follows:
  • If any one player has three votes, they may be lynched.
  • In the event of a tie, the first one to reach that number of votes will be considered the target.
  • However, if ALL FOUR other votes are cast (scattered about the remaining players, etc), then less votes will be on the leader than are cast, so the will of the group is not clear.
    No lynch
    will result.
Every time I vote count, I'll tell you whether the leader could be lynched under current conditions. It's simpler than it sounds; just make sure some player has 50% or more of the votes that are actually being cast, and they will be lynched. Of course, if discussion picks up significantly, or if you reach four votes on one person the old-fashioned way, this will all be moot.

Right now, obviously, no one is in danger of being lynched.

I need you to confirm that you're switching your vote from one person to the other; usually an
Unvote
will suffice to show you're making a conscious decision.

After that clarification I'll post another vote count. Right now no one is in danger of being deadline lynched, in any case.

Eighth Vote Count of Day One:

Erotomachia - 2 (Kelly Chen, ChrisV)
Arvadite - 2 (RandomActs, viper0933)
viper0933 - 1 (Arvadite)

Not voting - 2 (Iammars, Erotomachia)

With seven players alive, four votes will lynch normally, although three votes would be sufficient under most cases to lynch at deadline (Saturday, May 20th at midnight US Central time).
Right now no one meets those criteria.

Ninth Vote Count of Day One:

Arvadite - 3 (RandomActs, viper0933, Arvadite)

Erotomachia - 2 (Kelly Chen, ChrisV)

Not voting - 2 (Iammars, Erotomachia)

With seven players alive, four votes will lynch normally, although three votes would be sufficient under most cases to lynch at deadline (Saturday, May 20th at midnight US Central time - about 55 hours from now).
Right now Arvadite has enough votes to be lynched at deadline (yes, self-votes count, even if they're poor play).

Final Vote Count of Day One:

Erotomachia - 4 (Kelly Chen, ChrisV, viper0933, Iammars)

Arvadite - 2 (RandomActs, Arvadite)

Not voting - Erotomachia
-------------------------------

With enough votes registered at last, the Doombots are summoned. You might think they were impatient, if they had emotions at all. Instead they go about methodically dismembering Erotomachia on your command. What a mess, which they leave behind for the street sweeper to clean up. But be happy! You have lynched your first scum!

Erotomachia,
Scum
, was lynched by the group Day One.

It is now Night One. Choices are due by midnight on Monday, May 22nd
(a little more than three days from this post).

Kelly Chen, having been duly deputized by MeMe upon her departure from Tinytown, was looking forward to her first night on the job. Unfortunately being new to the job, she didn't take the necessary precautions when getting into her car, and failed to notice the small beeping box on the underside of her gas tank. After that, she failed to notice much of anything at all; concussive blasts travel awfully fast through flesh, blood, and bone.

Kelly Chen,
replacement for MeMe
and the Cop, was blown up Night One.

It is now Day Two; with five alive, three votes will be enough to lynch.

First Vote Count of Day Two:

Iammars - 2 (RandomActs, ChrisV)

Not voting - 3 (Arvadite, viper0933, Iammars)

With five alive, three votes will be enough to lynch.

For the record, I'll be almost completely absent from the site until Saturday afternoon - our big conference I've been going crazy preparing for starts this afternoon. If you lynch, please give me a reasonable amount of Twilight to come back and close the Day before you start shooting me PMs; I'll try to check once a day, late at night.

ChrisV's life until now in the kingdom of Latveria had been fairly dull (with the exception of the last few days). His job as an actuary for a life insurance company had been thrown into disarray by the sudden rise in the murder rate, and now he had only a few moments to calculate the chance of being thrown off a 53 meter-high cliff at age 31 by a single Agent of Evil.

Code: Select all

s = (1/2)at^2
t = (2s/a)^1/2
t = ((2 * 53m) / 9.8 m/s^2)^1/2
t = 3.29 sec

ChrisV, a Townie, was thrown off a cliff Night Two.

It is now Day Three. With three people left alive, justt wo votes will cause a lynch.
You are now officially at Lynch-Or-Lose.

First and Final Vote Count of Day Three:

Arvadite - 2 (RandomActs, viper0933)

Not voting - Arvadite
---------------------------------
Arvadite's death comes swiftly as the Doombots were lying in wait for what promised to be a quick finish. The pieces of his corpse haven't even all hit the ground before Doctor Doom's helicopter arrives to pick up the winner.

"Good job, young one. You'll go far in the Latverian Ministry of Propoganda..."

And with that, he picks up viper0933 (and Erotomachia's
coffin
cardboard box
plastic bag of bits) to fly back to Doomstadt, the capital. RandomActs is killed by the helicopter's backwash, knocking him off a nearby cliff.

Arvadite, Townie, is lynched by the group.

RandomActs, Townie, is killed in the endgame

viper0933 (and Erotomachia, posthumously) win as Scum!

Other players, already deceased:
  • Erotomachia,
    Scum
    , was lynched Day One.
  • Kelly Chen,
    replacement for MeMe
    and the
    Cop
, was blown up Night One.
  • Iammars,
    Townie
    , was lynched Day Two.
  • ChrisV,
    Townie
, was dumped off a cliff Night Two.
I have to congratulate viper (even if he did pre-empt my death scene ) with the way he handled this game. I believe he played in his first newbie game with me as his moderator as well, and his chattiness got him killed quickly due to irritating other players. He moderated it well this time AND used it to his defense at the end. I probably wouldn't have voted for him either, since it was no sure thing that Erotomachia would die D1 when he cast the lynching vote.

Comments? Questions? Suggestions?

Oh, by the way I'd forgotten to post this before, but I always do a post count graph of my games; it helps me keep track of when to set deadlines, etc. You all did pretty good, although you almost came down to a deadline D1 when you finally lynched Erotomachia.
